Hello fellow bookworms ๐ I was so excited when I saw the #YARC announcement, but due to my hiatus and exams I couldn’t immediately write-up my sign-up post and TBR even though I was itching to do that, because I was SO excited!!! I love reading challenges and this one sounded SO good and was made to support Asian authors! So now i’s finally happening, I’m joining the Year of the Asian Reading Challenge!!! โค This challenge is all about reading as many books written by Asian authors as you can, with different levels available, depending on the amount of books you read! ๐
The challenge is hosted by the lovelyย Lily from sprinklesofdreams, CWย fromย The Quiet Pond,ย Shealeaย fromย Shut Up, Shealea, andย Vickyย fromย Vicky Who Reads! Definitely go ahead and check out their announcement posts, because they go very in-depth in what they have planned (including all recommendations, books of the month, themes and lots more!) All the images for the challenge have been designed by CW and I have to say that they look so stunning! ๐๐๐ย There is also a Twitter Account (@YearOfTheAsian) that you should check out, if you don’t want to miss any information!! There is also a signup formย for the challenge that you can fill out!
Days and Dates to rememberย ๐
** This coolย list was written by the YARC hosts and included in their signup, so I thought I would paste it here, as it’s super helpful in not missing any of the important dates per month!! Also check out Shealea’s page, as she has compiled all the important information of the challenge there!!
- Every 1st of the month: list of recommended books (for the monthly prompt)
- Every 2nd of the month: release of monthly link-up post
- Every 15th of the month: closing of previous monthly link-up post
- 31 December 2019: last day of the reading challenge
I’m aiming for the level of the … Indian Cobra!ย ๐
I was actually debating going one level lower, BUT I really like snakes ๐ and the badge for it looks so adorable, so I just had to aim for it as my level! I think I can totally read 11 books, as I have enough books on my TBR and I really want to commit to this challenge now and read lots of books by Asian authors!!

My #YARC TBRย ๐
As my level is the Indian Cobra I have chosen 12 Books that I would like to put on my TBR for the year! I mainly chose them depending on what I already had available on my physical TBR and library. Sadly my library doesn’t have a lot of books by Asian authors, at least not as much as the mental health books I read for the bingo board in January ๐ฅ However, I still managed to get ahold of a lot of books by Asian authors AND I’m also planning to buy two upcoming releases and a backlist book that I have been wanting to get to! If I can I will buy some more books or read the books by Julie Kagawa, that my library does have, so there are still lots of great options ๐ I’m very excited to be getting to all the books on my TBR, though I won’t go in-depth about them right no (or this post would be super long), but you can definitely expect some Reviews!! I plan to maybe do some group Reviews, depending on what I rate the books, as 5 star books always get a separate post ๐
๐ = Owned
๐ย = Library Books
๐ป = Still have to buy
1. Empress of a Thousand Skiesย ๐ย ๐ย (Rhoda Belleza)

4. Internmentย ๐ย ๐*Arcย (Samira Ahmed)
5. Wintersongย ๐ย ๐ย (S. Jae-Jones)
6. The Library of Fatesย ๐ย ๐ย (Aditi Khorana)
7. The Gauntletย ๐ย ๐ย (Karuna Riazi)

Are you participating in #YARC2019? What are some of your favorite books written by Asian authors?ย ๐
YAY Caro, I’m really happy you’re taking part in this challenge! I hope you’ll find some new favorite books thanks to this, I love your TBR! I also have the Speaker on my TBR, as well as Girls of Paper and Fire and can’t wait to read both ๐ Happy reading! โค โค

Thank you so much Marie!! ๐ I finally have to get to the Speaker, I’ve had this book for almost two years now and still haven’t read it ๐ I’m also very excited for Girls of Paper and Fire due to the praise ๐ Thank you! ๐๐ป

As I mentioned earlier on Twitter, I’m so excited you’re doing this challenge too and now I’m one step closer to wanting to do it myself too even though I don’t really like setting myself TBRs for the most part. xD
You’ve definitely got some really interesting books on your TBR and I can’t wait to hear your thoughts on The Gilded Wolves! I’ve got Blood Of A Thousand Stars on my TBR too, so maybe we could even buddy read that? And OBVIOUSLY, I’m super excited about Sandhya’s new book! There’s Something About Sweetie is hopefully going to kick off my spring/summer of reading all the contemporaries and I cannot wait! ๐
Good luck with your challenge, Caro! I can’t wait to read your updates and see what you think of these books! ๐

DO IT!!!! ๐โค You could just make a shelf on Goodreads/or write a general list with all possible books that you’re interested in for YARC and then pick one if you’re in the mood for it, so it wouldn’t be a strict TBR, just a selection of possible choices ๐
I’m SO hyped for The Gilded Wolves, I think I’ll get the book for my birthday, so I can finally read it, as a lot of people have already been praising it ๐ YES of course!! I have to read Empress of a Thousand Skies first, but then we can definitely buddy read book 2 โค Oh yes, I’m so excited about her newest release, as they are the perfect summer contemporaries โ
Thank you!! โค๐

See, things MAY have changed since I left that comment because there MIGHT be a sign up post going live in a couple of hours. xD But I love the shelf idea for Goodreads! That way I won’t run out of other options to read that aren’t part of my TBR – thank you so much for the suggestion!
When’s your birthday again? I’m the worst with keeping dates like that. xD

YES YES YES!!! I’ll immediately go read it later ๐โค I’m glad that I could help! I do have a YARC shelf as well and it’s really great if you find more possible books you want to read ๐
April 16th, so we still have quite a while to go ๐

Oh good luck with this readathon Caro, I’m sure you’ll manage to reach the Indian Cobra level (in fact I’m sure you’ll beat it as well). ๐ โค
I haven't read many of these books myself; I picked up Empress of a Thousand Skies a few years back and it was good but not really great, but I loved Angelfall and the whole trilogy actually. I'll definitely be looking forwards to seeing what you think of that one. ๐
The Gilded Wolves is still on my TBR list but I can't wait to get around to it. Roshani Chokshi is one of my favourite authors so I know that book is going to be amazing.
You've got some great books on your TBR list to get started with, I hope you have fun taking part in this challenge and again good luck! ๐ โค

Ahh thank you so much!! โค I really hope to read a lot of books by Asian authors this year and maybe even buy a few more that I’ve been excited for ๐
I’m so glad that you liked Angelfall, as I haven’t heard a lot about it, but it has been a while since I read a book about angels, so I’m really excited to read it ๐
Same here, I’m so excited to finally get to te Gilded Wolves as Roshani is one of my fave authors as well, so I’ll read anything she puts out!
Thank you!! ๐โค

Thatโs all right. ๐ โค๏ธ Yeah I feel like with Angelfall there are a fair few people who have read it but it doesnโt have a large presence you know? Still itโs a good book, and a favourite series of mine.
Thatโs all right. ๐ โค๏ธ

Angel Fall is a great choice! I have always wanted to read the next book and have never gotten to it… It counts due to the author right? This is such a great list!! It seems so easy that you found 12… I picked a higher level too because of the animal that represented that level and I may have bitten off too much but March has a slew of Asian reads for me so I’m jumping in too! Good luck on your reading challenge I’m sure you’ll totally hit your goal. โค๏ธ

I’m really looking forward to reading Angelfall, it has been too since I read a book featuring Angels ๐ The book counts as the author is Asian!! I really liked the Snake so I had to pick that level and I think I can do it ๐ I’m catching up in March as well! Thank you, good luck to you too! ๐
