10 Series I want to start

Hello fellow bookworms πŸ“šΒ The Series Crackdown Readathon 8.0 has recently concluded, so I decided that after tackling all those Series, it was time to talk about all those Series that I want to start again πŸ˜„ There are a LOT of Series on my TBR, so I went with my Top 10, the ones that first came to my mind when I set up this list and that are more of a priority to me. I had a lot of fun talking about the books and now I want to read all of them all at once – oh the reader struggles πŸ“š

➑ Edit: Talking about starting all those Series has now made me want to actually read them right now, despite still being deep in the NEWT’s and my TBR, so that’s fun πŸ˜…

me trying to read all the Series

Let's Talk (2)

1. Daughter of Smoke and Bone (Laini Taylor)

This has been on my TBR for like AGES nowΒ πŸ’–Β Apart from a short story I have never read anything by Laini Taylor despite all the hype around her books. However, I got the entire box set 2 (?) years ago for Christmas because I think it has angels and demons, which are kind of my thing πŸ˜„ I have been told that she has such beautiful, atmospheric writing so I’m excited to see how I like her books, I can definitely binge read the entire Trilogy now! I’ll be reading this one first, as I own it, before going over to Strange the Dreamer, a book that has also been on my TBR for quite a while. Please pray for me that I’ll actually end up liking the books, because I heard that they have a big case of the insta love (maybe not so bad if it’s a handsome angel or demon 😈)

2. Bloodlines (Richelle Mead)

Β

I planned to read this since it came out so like 8 years?Β πŸ’–Β There seems to be a trend with the Series I want to start: they are usually a lot of backlist ones that I didn’t get to during high school and I’m still catching up πŸ˜„ This came out in 2011 and I really wanted to read the Bloodlines books, because they are a spinoff of my most beloved Vampire Academy books! Adrian is one of the main characters and I love him, so I need to read this soon. First, I’ll be doing a Vampire Academy reread though. The good news is that all books are out now so I can binge read them πŸ‘ The bad news is that there are a lot of books and neither I nor the library own them, but we’ll get there one book at a time!Let's Talk (2)

3. The Remnant Chronicles (Mary E. Pearson)

I need my royal fantasy pleeease!Β πŸ’–Β This is another leftover backlist Fantasy Series that I have been wanting to read, because back then everyone loved it. My library gladly has all books so I could technically binge the entire Trilogy! I’m actually excited to be reading the books, because so many people have said that this is one of their favorite Series and I’m always down for any fantasy books. However, I’m not too thrilled that there is going to be a love triangle, because it’s my most hated trope and I don’t think I’ll ever get around to actually liking it … ever. Hopefully it’s tolerable here, because I’m not coming for the romance, but the rest of the story. I love me some good royalty stories πŸ‘‘

4. The Diabolic (S.J. Kincaid)

Somehow my interest in this has risen againΒ πŸ’–Β I have always wanted to read The Diabolic, because it sounded really interesting and I’m definitely done for some more science fiction! It’s all about a genetically engineered human (?) who has been created for the sole purpose of becoming a bodyguard and now has to impersonate the one they were sworn to protect. I love this premise because it promises a lot of discussions about humanity and what it means to be human, especially for someone who has been created and been treated like a thing that’s expendable. I think this is going to be very stabby and full of intrigue so I cannot wait to read it! I also read this at the perfect time because the third book comes out next year (rip to anyone who has been waiting since 2017 😲)Let's Talk (2)

5. Something Strange and Deadly (Susan Dennard)

This is going to hold me over until the next Witchlands bookΒ πŸ’–Β I own book 1 and 2 yet have never actually started reading Susan’s first Trilogy. However, as I love the Witchlands books so much I really want to try out her earlier works as well, so I hope to at least read book 1 this year. Part of me is scared that I won’t end up liking this, as that would be a bit awkward for me (I don’t mind if I don’t like these as much as the Witchlands books, that could technically happen). Still, apart from my wanting to read this for the author, I think that the premise is also really good and could be right up my alley. I think this contains fantasy elements aka zombies and it’s also historical fiction! I’m a big fan of genre crossovers, so I could see myself liking this πŸ’•

6. Spin the Dawn (Elizabeth Lim)

The Series debut just came out but I am HYPEDΒ πŸ’–Β I think initially this wasn’t even on my most anticipated releases list, but then I heard so much more gush about it, that I ended up adding Spin the Dawn to my TBR long after I had written my anticipated releases post! Recently I also learned that it has got a great enemies to lovers romance and that immediately has me sold on a book as well, I saw some quotes shared on Goodreads and really liked the writing style and banter πŸ‘ The only reason I originally wasn’t as interested in the book was because I’m not a big fan of the crossdressing trope, as it can be done really badly and I’m kind of over it. Still, I have high hopes for this book as it sounds very interesting and a lot of bookish people have liked it. I think this is supposed to be a duology, so we can except the next book next year!

Let's Talk (2)

7. Reboot (Amy Tintera)

I’m SO in the mood to read thisΒ πŸ’–Β This is a bit more underrated backlist Series and one that I haven’t heard anyone talk about in a long time (if you’ve read the books feel free to tell me all about them!). However, I’m a big fan of the premise, it kind of gives me Vicious vibes with the whole ‘coming back from the dead, but more deadly’ thing and I really can’t understand that I didn’t check out these books sooner! I’m also spying a deadly girl meets soft boy dynamic brewing, so I hope to get some good hate to love relationship. In general I have been meaning to read more books by this author, as she has also written the Ruined Trilogy (with another hate to love ship I think yay!) and has an interesting upcoming release – I really think that she could become an author whose books I really enjoy 😍

8. Gideon the Ninth (Tamsyn Muir)

Everyone has been talking about this oneΒ πŸ’–Β so now I have finally caved and added it to my TBR. To be fair, I have been interested in the synopsis, because necromancy sounds super interesting and I love magic systems that include different groups (here it seems like there are different houses with magical abilities?), so I feel like this could be right up my alley! The good Reviews that I have been seeing have only made me more confident in my decisions to add this to my TBR, because I’m always up for a good Fantasy book πŸ’• Furthermore, I heard this has a great writing style (and even some humor) and a f/f romance too! Plus, it’s adult fantasy and I have been trying to break into this genre for quite some time. Even better that it’s written by a woman, because usually adult fantasy is dominated by male writers and that often shows in how female characters ate written. Basically, I’m so tempted to buy it right now … but it only comes out in September and it’s super expensive 😭

9. Girls of Paper and Fire (Natasha Ngan)

Still haven’t read this oneΒ πŸ’–Β I have been meaning to read it ever since it came out and now the sequel has been released already, that’s how long I have waited. Recently, I have heard a lot of mixed Reviews coming in (in contrast with a lot of the glowing ones in the beginning), especially concerning book 2, but I still want to give this Series a shot, because a lot of people have loved it! I’m not sure when I will get around to reading the first book though, as I still need to buy it and decide when I want to read this. Girls of Paper and Fire is a heavier read as it contains rape/abuse, so I’ll need to pick out a time when I’m ready to handle a darker and more emotionally draining book. I’m still very glad that we’ve got an Asian inspired Fantasy featuring two girls falling in love, so hopefully I’ll end up liking the book once I get to it 😊

10. Unearthed (Amie Kaufman & Meagan Spooner)

This is for when I’m in a big sci-fi moodΒ πŸ’–Β I have also yet to read These Broken Stars, but we’ve got to get started somewhere and for me that means reading this Duology first! I have wanted to read more books set in space this year and as my library has Unearthed (plus the Broken Stars books), I have been tempted to pick it up several times now. I promised myself that it’ll happen soon (hopefully after I’m done with the NEWT’s), because I could use some space books πŸŒ€Β I have also high hopes in Amie Kaufman and Meagan Spooner, I did read books by them before (The Illuminae Trilogy for Amie [with Jay Kristoff] and Hunted for Meagan) that I really liked, so reading a book that they co-authored sounds fantastic to me 😍

  2. I really liked the Reboot duology. I remember thinking it was clever and super engaging.

I also keep meaning to reread Daughter of Smoke and Bone because other than the ending I did really like it, but I’ve never continued the series for some reason.

I hope you love all these books, Caro!

  3. What a great, great list Caro!! πŸ’• I need to finish the Diabolic series! I’ve only read the first one. Daughter of Smoke and Bone has two of my favorite fantasy races! I love the mythology she created. And I really loved Spin the Dawn! I can’t wait for the sequel too.

  5. The Daughter of Smoke & Bone trilogy by Laini Taylor is, hands down, one of my favorite series of all-time. It’s SO GOOD. And yeah, there is some insta-love in the beginning, but it quickly fades away and turns into something much more developed and complex, so I think it’s worth it. I hope you enjoy it!

  6. This is a great list and some I would love to read myself… I’m a huge huge fan of the Remnant Chronicles, but I have to mention that romance is the major element of the trilogy and you might be disappointed if you want the romance to be just a subplot..
