Anticipated 2020 Part 1

Hello fellow bookwormsΒ πŸ“– It’s finally time to talk about the 2020 Releases I’m super excited for, again so here we are πŸ₯° Like the previous years, this is part 1 covering the releases from January to June aka the first half of the year – therefore I only included books that had a release date already! As I could never order the complete list by how excited I am, I’m going to talk about the books in order of when they release!Β  I have about 19 books on this list, which is why it took me a bit longer to write this, but there are just so many good books coming out this year … I’m sad that I won’t be able to read them all, because the money πŸ˜‚Β  I also linked to the Goodreads pages of the book, just click on the cover!

Me trying to keep up with all the new releases

Note 🌻 I tried to include the representation of the diverse books on my list, please let me know if I missed something or got something wrong!

We Used to be Friends (Amy Spalding)

❄ Expected Publication: January 7th

πŸ’–Β  Bisexual MC

➽ Give me all the friendship break books. I honestly LOVE the emergence of books dealing with how heartbreaking it can be to lose close friendships, as I feel this is often skipped over/dismissed compared to romantic breakups. We Used to be Friends immediately spoke to me as it promises to talk how devastating growing apart from someone who you thought would be in your life forever can be πŸ’” I honestly cannot wait to read this, as I think the storytelling in dual timelines will work so well for this emotional read!

The Conference of the Birds (Ransom Riggs)

❄ Expected Publication: January 14th

➽ I love the Miss Peregrine’s books so much. This is book 5 (so book 2 in the additional Trilogy) and will follow Jacob’s adventures in American Peculiardom again, especially after the events of the fourth book. I loved A Map of Days so much, it’s a fantastic continuation of the original books and brings an interesting spark to the story by exploring how different Peculiars live in America. I cannot say too much but after the ending of the last books I need answers more than ever before πŸ‘€

The Will and the Wilds (Charlie N. Holmberg)

❄ Expected Publication: January 21st

➽ This has something whimsical about it. It’s set near a forest and includes murderous creatures called mystings, which seem to be some kind of demon. When the main character strikes a deal with a mysting herself (I’m always more than up for demonic deals of any kind, they promise high stakes and danger) she hopes to fight back against those who harmed her. I’m lowkey hoping for some forbidden romance between the two of them, but I’ll also settle for the sheer thrilling drama of the consequences their deal brings for the both of them 😱Let's Talk (2)

Layoverland (Gabby Noone)

❄ Expected Publication: January 21st

➽ The premise of this is so intriguing. It gave me all the vibes of a WIP of mine that also deals with the afterlife and I’m super happy to see a book in this setting published, it’s just what I was craving! The idea of purgatory, hell and heaven each being distinct places and the main character being stuck with the task to help people move on if she wants another shot at going to heaven is so intriguing! Especially as she’s supposed to help the boy who’s responsible for her death. This sounds like a lot of emotions, drama and maybe even forgiveness.

If You Only Knew (Prerna Pickett)

πŸ’ŒΒ Expected Publication: February 11th

➽ This book caught my interest from the start. Maybe it’s because it has got an enemies to lovers (also forbidden) romance, but this one sounds very interesting. It’s about a boy who just got out of jail falling for the daughter of his prosecutor. The latter carries a lot of guilt as she got away with a crime herself and that’s why she convinces her father to give the boy a second chance. I love the focus on second chances and the possibility for things to change, no matter what has happened before. I’m also intrigued by what exactly has happened to the main characters, as there’s a lot of background to uncover here! (I’m also ber the moon because I got an eArc through Xpresso Book Tours and I cannot wait to read this!!! πŸ₯°)

Let's Talk (2)

Of Curses and Kisses (Sandhya Menon)

πŸ’ŒΒ Expected Publication: February 18th

πŸ’– Indian MC

➽ It’s retelling time again. Sandhya Menon is really out there in 2020 giving us two great releases and for that I’m thankful! This one is a retelling of Beauty and the Beast set in an elite boarding school featuring two teens who belong to two feuding families (This is also giving me all the Romeo and Juliet vibes as well). They’re both dragged into the hatred and curses of their ancestors and it seems like the entire universe is conspiring to keep them apart. This sounds so unique and has a great twist on the original tale so I cannot wait to dive into this!Let's Talk (2)

The Sound of Stars (Alechia Dow)

πŸ’ŒΒ Expected Publication: February 25th

πŸ’– Fat, biracial demisexual MC, Anxiety Rep, non-binary & bisexual minor characters

➽ Time for aliens with emotions.Β  This sci-fi book deals with the aftermath of contact between humanity and the alien race, which includes a lot of the population being wiped out and aliens having control of earth now. As human emotions are deemed dangerous now, all art is forbidden but then the main character keeps a secret library because she cannot help herself. When a supposedly emotionless alien born in a lab discovers music, he’s not so sure if he should turn in the main character as they both connect over art. I love the boding over art so much and how the book is already showing that it can bring out the best in us! πŸ’•

House of Earth and Blood (Sarah J. Maas)

🌼 Expected Publication: March 3rd

➽ I haven’t even finished ACOWAR yet but I need this. Despite not being that in love with Throne of Glass (the first book was decent but nothing mindblowing), I’m trash for ACOTAR (gotta read ACOWAR sometime maybe) and I cannot wait for a new book by Sarah J. Maas. Like it tends to be the case this one will be shelved as YA but is closer to New Adult and as I’m eternally searching for New Adult Fantasy this is going to be great! It features demons, angels (yes! I’m waiting for them to make a comeback as well) and a half-fae main character who becomes involved in an investigation when her loved ones are killed. It also has a fallen angel love interest and I really need more of that!Let's Talk (2)

The Light in Hidden Places (Sharon Cameron)

🌼 Expected Publication: March 3rd

➽ I’m always up for interesting historical fiction stories. Some of my favorite stories are set during the second world war (like The Book Thief or Code Name Verity), so The Light in Hidden Places sounds like such a heartwrenching, emotional story. It’s set in Poland and features the main character having to hide several jews from the nazis, one of them the boy she’s maybe even in love with and for whose family she worked with in the past. She’s also got a little sister to protect, so when her house is supposed to get requisitioned things are starting to go wrong. This definitely seems to be a thrilling, unforgettable story 😒

Let's Talk (2)

Havenfall (Sara Holland)

🌼 Expected Publication: March 3rd

πŸ’–Β  Bisexual MC

➽ A magical Inn? Sign me up. The author’s first book series is still on my TBR but this one sounds amazing, so I knew I had to add it to my most anticipated releases list! Havenfall has a cool concept: a magical inn connecting several ancient worlds with different magics and the main character in the midst of it all, as the Inkeeper’s niece. Maddie loves the inn so much and hopes to inherit it one day, but when someone shows up dead and a monster seems to be on the loose she’s responsible for no one getting hurt. This sounds intriguing and mysterious already and definitely like something I’d enjoy!

Don’t Call the Wolf (Aleksandra Ross)

🌻 Expected Publication: April 28th

➽ I haven’t seen this mentioned a lot, but it sounds great. It’s about a forest queen who’s losing the battle against deadly dragons and therefore hires the last survivors of the most heroic dragon slayers to help her queendom survive. I love the idea of this unlikely alliance forming between them, both wanting something different and the possibility of betrayal in the air if things shouldn’t go according to plan πŸ‘€ I feel like this idea has so much potential, so I cannot wait to see what the author has planned for it!

Kopie von Vigilatte Cafe (18)

The Betrothed (Kiera Cass)

🌻 Expected Publication: May 5th

➽ Kiera Cass finally has a new book out. I loved her Selection books (at least the original trilogy, we don’t speak of the spinoff books on this blog) and cannot wait to see an interesting royal romance with lots of intrigue and drama. I have no idea if this is going to have fantasy elements, but we have a noblewoman being chosen as the king’s wife only to have her fall for someone else – a commoner with a mysterious ability. I’m definitely all here for this story, as it promises so much heartbreak, but maybe also a mystery as there’s surely also some shady stuff going on in the king’s court πŸ‘€

Let's Talk (2)

Felix Ever After (Kacen Callender)

🌻 Expected Publication: May 12th

πŸ’– black, queer, transgender MC

➽ This seems to be all about complicated feelings. And I’m all here for it. The main character is a trans teen deciding to catfish his nemesis online … but then ends up falling in love with them instead. This sounds so interesting already and is sure to get really emotional with the unintended feelings that might not even be mutual 😱 However, I can also feel this being a very important read as the synopsis says it tackles transphobia online through trolls leaving harmful messages, something that is sadly all too common. I definitely hope that Felix gets his happily ever after though!Let's Talk (2)

The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes (Suzanne Collins)

🌻 Expected Publication: May 19th

➽ Finally, we get a new Hunger Games Books. Like many author people I was so happy when the author announced a new book after literally forever … Suzanne Collins didn’t write anything after Mockingjay and I wasn’t sure if she’d ever return to writing. I’m all the more happy to get a prequel novel set during the 10th Hunger Games (though it sadly won’t feature Mag’s Hunger Games). There’s not much information about the plot public beyond that, but I’m so ready to dive back into this world, as The Hunger Games Trilogy was phenomenal! πŸ’—Let's Talk (2)

The Enigma Game (Elizabeth E. Wein)

🌻 Expected Publication: May 26th

➽ I AM SCREAMING. In case you don’t know it, the Code Name Verity Duology is one of my favorite books overall and also on the top of my favorite historical fiction books because the wrecked me so bad and have stayed with me ever since (I’m still not over the emotional impact of them). Now there’s a new book set in the same ‘universe’ coming up!!! The Enigma Game is set before the events of Code Name Verity and is bound to feature beloved characters from the previous books 😭 It also features a new character who’s scrambling to work out a code translating machine that could help them in the war! (You can also definitely read this book without having the other books)

My Calamity Jane (Hand, Ashton, Meadows)

🌹 Expected Publication: June 2nd

➽ The Janes are back. We had to wait over 2 years for the last book in the Janes trilogy, all about retelling the lives of historical Janes with a fantastical twist. I ADORED My Lady Jane, the first book, but was let own by My Plain Jane a bit (it’s still a 4-star read but the other main character overshadowed the titular character, Jane by a lot). I honestly cannot wait to read My Calamity Jane, as this time we’re in the wild west hunting garou’s – likely a fictional monster – and causing problem when Jane gets bit by one of the creatures. I don’t read books with this setting often, that’s why I’m all the more ready to have a change of scenery. I hope this Jane will stay with me more than the last one and the other POV characters already sound like a delight as well πŸ₯°

Let's Talk (2)

Where Dreams Descend (Janella Angeles)

🌹 Expected Publication: June 2nd

πŸ’– ** Author is Filipino-American & I think the MC is a PoC

➽ This already contains so many buzzwords. I love that Where Dreams Descend is set in a lush circus with an extraordinary show and includes (1) bold, powerful showgirl, (1) probably lying keeper of the cub and (1) brooding, tortured magician. I love the character cast so much already and can feel the atmosphere oozing off the cover and synopsis! I’m definitely ready for all the lies, vivid magic and spectators shows that are sure to take place during this book πŸ’žLet's Talk (2)

Cemetery Boys (Aiden Thomas)

🌹 Expected Publication: June 9th

πŸ’– Latinx Trans MC

➽ Give me all the ghosts, please. I’m here for more ghost stories! This one is about a brujo called Yadriel who sets out to perform a ritual to free the tortured ghost of his cousin to prove something to his family, who has a hard time accepting his gender. But when things go wrong he finds himself with the wrong ghost summoned, one who belongs to a bad boy who’s not intend to go quietly into death. The synopsis also hints at Yadriel may be falling from the ghost, who he’s supposed to help move on and that’s sadly very bad timing 😱 I cannot wait to read this book, as it already sounds amazing!

Let's Talk (2)

10 Things I Hate about Pinky (Sandhya Menon)

🌹 Expected Publication: June 30th

πŸ’– Indian MC

➽ I want this to be good so badly. I loved reading Dimple & Rishi’s story as well as From Twinkle with Love, so Sandhya Menon has become an author whose stories I really like. Sadly Sweetie’s book last year ended up disappointing me (I hoped it would be 5 stars, but turned out to be a 3 star read instead), even though I was so happy to see Ashish have a bigger role. Now I’m in the same situation: I was incredibly excited to see my favorite character from the last book – Samir – get the spotlight and his own romance with Pinky, who I’d wished to see more of anyways. I definitely hope this will turn into the amazing, fun read I know I can have with Menon’s book πŸ™Let's Talk (2)

  3. I haven’t heard of The Will and the Wild but it is so satisfying to say! It sounds really cool too, and I’m 100% with you in that I would just *love* for there to be some sort of forbidden romance. It gives me life. Of Curses and Kisses sounds really cool and I can’t remember where I saw it but I heard that there isn’t anything fantastical in it but still feels sort of fairytale-ish? awesome!

The Gravity of Us and Witches of Ash and Ruin are in my list too!
