Things I Plan on Doing During my Semester Break πŸ’— Books, TV and other Media

 Semester Break (5)

Hello fellow bookworms πŸ’— I’m finally back from my hiatus!! πŸŽ‰ I actually wanted to have this post up last week, but it didn’t quite work out with the last of my exams wrapping up. But now I’m all done which is a relief. I really missed writing posts (and interacting with you!) and would love to share my plans for my semester break with you πŸ₯° Originally, I had wanted to limit this post to reading plans, but after some consideration, I realized that I also wanted to talk about a few games, podcasts and TV Shows I’m hoping to catch up on πŸ˜„ If you have any recommendations for podcasts, TV Shows or books, I’d love to hear them and I’ll put them on my list!

BOOKS

ARC’s on my TBR

Hiatus

  • This Golden Flame (Emily Victoria) 🌷 February 2nd
  • The Gilded Ones (Namia Forna) 🌷 February 9th
  • Game Changer (Neal Shusterman) 🌷 February 9th
  • A Dark and Hollow Star (Ashley Shuttleworth) 🌷 February 23rd
  • Our Last Echoes (Kate Alice Marshall) 🌷 March 16th
  • The Half-Orphan’s Handbook (Joan F. Smith) 🌷 April 6th
  • The Dead and the Dark (Courtney Gould) 🌷 August 3rd

➽ I was sure that I could read some of the ARC’s I requested last year in January, but I was busier than anticipated, so it sadly didn’t work out πŸ˜… I also got some additional ARC’s during my exam phase, so now I have some digital review copies to catch up on  and I’m very excited that I get to read them πŸ’• The majority of them are already released, but I’ll of course still be doing some reviews on my blog to tell you about my thoughts! I’m especially excited for A Dark and Hollow Star, Our Last Echoes and The Half-Orphan’s Handbook, so I’ll be reading those first πŸ₯°

On Hold from the Library

Semester Break

  • The Girl from the Other Side Vol 2. (Nagabe) 🌷 Wait Time: 2 Weeks
  • Happily Ever Afters (Elise Bryant) 🌷 Wait Time: 2 Weeks
  • The House in the Cerulean Sea (TJ Klune) 🌷 Wait Time: 8 Weeks
  • The Ex Talk (Rachel Lynn Solomon) 🌷 Wait Time: 8 Weeks

➽ I’m very fortunate to have a good digital library pass (as libraries are still closed here) and have got some really good books on hold I’m looking forward to reading πŸ₯° I have been wanting to continue with the Girl from the Other Side manga, as I liked the first volume when I read it during the GraphicsAThon in January and I have been heating such good things about The House in the Cerulean Sea!! I was also super excited to see that my library got Happily Ever Afters and The Ex Talk, two 2021 releases I was anticipating 😊

Women’s History Month Readathon 2021

Semester Break (4)

  • Concrete Rose (Angie Thomas) 🌷 #ownvoices for an identity you don’t share
  • Shadow Kiss (Richelle Mead) 🌷 Purple on the cover (also #St.Vladimir’s Readalong book)
  • A List of Cages (Robin Roe) 🌷  A book recommended to you (Sofii @ abookathought mentioned this book in a rec post πŸ’•)
  • Nightblood (Elly Blake) 🌷 A book with a trope you love (forbidden love, opposites attract)

➽ The Women’s History Month Reading Challenge is hosted by Margaret @ weirdzeal and I loved doing it last year, so I knew I had to join again! It’s a reading challenge focused on reading books written by women and has a super cool bingo board as well! I wasn’t able to post a TBR before, but still wanted to mention it here. This Readathon has already started at the beginning of the month (and runs until the end of March) and you can look at my Twitter Thread if you want to know what books I have read so far πŸ₯° As I have more time for reading, I still have more books that I definitely want to read (with even more options mentioned in my Twitter signup)! Concrete Rose, A List of Cages and Nightblood are books I just got as a post exam treat, so I’m hyped for them πŸ“š

#TomeTopple Readathon

Semester Break (1)

  • Legendborn (Tracy Deonn) 🌷 501 pages
  • A Dark and Hollow Star (Ashley Shuttleworth) 🌷 513 pages

➽ There is also another round of Tome Topple (focused on reading books over 500 pages) happening from the 15th to the 28th. The last couple of times I didn’t participate as the timing wasn’t good for me, but this time it works out and I’m ready to tackle some tomes! πŸ“š I have two books picked out that I most want to read. A Dark and Hollow Star is one of my ARC’s that I’m most excited for (fae!! queer teens being heroes!!) and also happens to be over 500 pages! I have also been wanting to read Legendborn (which I got on my Kindle) because I heard such fantastic things about it and I’m in the mood for some Fantasy books again ❀

TV SHOWS

Semester Break (2)

  • Hilda 🌷 Season 2
  • Castlevania 🌷 Season 3
  • The Witcher 🌷 Finish Season 1
  • Mismatched 🌷 Season 1
  • Wynonna Earp 🌷 Season 1
  • Tribes of Europa 🌷 Season 1

➽ I’m not a big TV person, but I like watching some shows and have some that I want to either start or catch up on! They don’t have the same priority as books for me, but I enjoy a good TV Shows 😊 I’m really bad at keeping up with shows, so I need to catch up with Hilda (started Season 2, then quit watching when exams got intense), Castlevania (was excited for Season 3, watched the first episode, then didn’t continue for no reason), The Witcher (watched almost all season except for the last 2 episodes … that was a year ago πŸ˜…) and Wynonna Earp (watched the first 9 episodes of season 1 and then didn’t continue until it got taken off Netflix … big fail)! I also want to watch Mismatched and Tribes of Europa and some other shows with one of my friends πŸ’•

OTHER MEDIA

Semester Break (3)

  • The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask 🌷 Game
  • The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past 🌷 Game
  • The Magnus Archives 🌷 Podcast
  • Girl in Space 🌷 Podcast

➽ There is also a couple of other content I want to consume! I love playing the Zelda Games and need to finish my playthrough of Majora’s Mask! I like the game but stopped playing for a bit as it’s got a deadline element and that wasn’t so good on top of my exams πŸ˜… Still excited to see how this one ends! I never played A Link to the Past when it was out on the GameBoy, but you can download it digitally, so I still get to play it soon!! πŸ₯° Then I have been wanting to get back into podcasts. Ever since Radio Silence by Alice Oseman introduced my to podcasts, I have wanted to get into listening to more podcasts, especially fiction ones! I started listening to Girl in Space – a fun sci-fi podcast – but stopped in the middle of the season, despite it being really good! I was also convinced by Veronika @ wordyandwhimsical to start listening to The Magnus Archives – a horror anthology podcast – despite me being the biggest scaredy cat ever πŸ˜‚ I already started the first season and it surprised me by immediately hooking me!! πŸ’– I definitely recommend looking up the content warnings before starting though, as there are some heavy themes!

  1. Good luck with all of your plans, Caro! I hope you have a wonderful semester break πŸ˜€ I haven’t read most of the books on your TBR, but there are some beautiful covers in there, which obviously means they’re going to be amazing πŸ˜‰ I did absolutely love The House in the Cerulean Sea, thoughβ€”one of my favorite books of last year! And I’m definitely excited to read Angie Thomas’ new books at some point. I can’t wait to see what you think of all the books you read for Women’s History Month!!

    1. Thank you so much, Margaret! πŸ₯° I keep hearing such good things about The House in the Cerulean Sea everywhere, so I’m eager for my library hold to come in so I can finally read it as well! I’m so happy to have a copy of Concrete Rose now and hope to read it soon! I hope I’ll be liking many of them πŸ™πŸ’•

  2. Lots to look forward to for your books/entertainment plans! Girl In Space is one of my favorite podcasts ahh I hardly see any book bloggers talk about it! Feel free to chat with me about your thoughts on it, so good!! πŸ˜πŸ’œ

  3. I want to read The Ex Talk! That one sounds cute. You should definitely finish The Witcher! I can’t wait for season 2. Tribes of Europa is one I wan to try but I think it’s dubbed? Those frustrate me because I HAVE to have subtitles and the subtitles never match whats being said lol I’d rather it in the foreign language, then have subtitles to translate. Anyways, I’ll probably watch it one day! I’ve been listening to podcasts too, or rather just one – Crime Junkies. I went through their entire backlog of episodes lol

    Enjoy your break!

    1. I’m very excited for The Ex-Talk, as I loved Today Tonight Tomorrow by the same author πŸ₯° I also really need to finish The Witcher before the next season comes out! Tribes of Europa is a German show so I can watch it in its original language, but I know how frustrating bad subtitles are πŸ˜” I definitely want to look into other podcasts to listen to as well! Thank you 😊

  4. i’m currently in a school and work break and i also feel like i need to be as productive as i possibly can. i keep telling myself that is not a big deal if i don’t read all the books ever, considering i still have other responsibilities and i should also actually *rest*, but my brain didn’t fully get the memo, lol.

i hope you do also find time to rest & do some self-care, caro! as for your TBR, i will be looking forward to hear your thoughts on legendborn (i’m intrigued by this one, even though fantasy is not my genre at all? but everyone who’s read it has loved it soooo) and a list of cages!

    hope you’re having a great break! πŸ’›

    1. Oh, I feel this so much! Because I know that the new semester is starting again soon, I feel like I have to do all the things while I still have the time πŸ˜… Though I’m trying to get better at relaxing πŸ™

I did find some time to rest a bit, which was much needed πŸ₯° I haven’t yet read Legendborn, but it’ll definitely happen this year, as I heard such good things about it as well πŸ™‚

      Thank you! ❀

  6. I just finished The House on The Cerulean sea and I loved it!! Wasn’t sure how I would feel and I almost didn’t read it but I’m so glad I did. The characters were so fleshed out and the world building was amazing! Definitely one I can see myself rereading in future.
Concrete Rose was also amazing so I hope you love that one!!

  7. Ooh, let me know when you’re reading The House in the Cerulean Sea!! That book made me so happy and so far everyone I know loved it too. πŸ˜€ Same about List of Cages, though that’s definitely a heavier book. Girl in Space is on my to-listen list.. which at this rate could mean that it’ll take me years to get to it; turns out, there are too many podcasts I’m interested in. I didn’t know much about fictional podcasts before getting into Magnus (though I tried and abandoned Welcome to Night Vale) so I was shocked by how many different ones are out there. Hope you have / will enjoy all these things. πŸ˜€

    1. I’m SO excited for The House in the Cerulean Sea!! I’m eagerly anticipating my library hold to come in as I’ve heard such good things ❀ I actually started Girl in Space & it was so good, but then I never listened to the rest of the episodes πŸ˜… You know how much I’m loving Magnus ❀ After I finish it, I’ll look out for other podcasts to listen to, there are truly so many options, it’s overwhelming 😱 Thank you πŸ’•

  8. Ah best of luck for all of your plans, Caro! I’m seeing the Ex Talk and I look forward to hearing your thoughts about it, I can’t wait to read that one πŸ™‚ A List of Cages is fantastic, though it’s a very heavy read, too, I cried alot ahah, be ready for it! πŸ™‚

    1. Thank you, Marie!! I cannot wait for my hold of The Ex Talk to come in, especially as I loved Today Tonight Tomorrow so much πŸ₯° I haven’t managed to read A List of Cages yet but I’m definitely trying to prepare myself for the sadness πŸ₯Ί
