What I’ve been up to in March 🌼 End of Finals & Semester Break

March Wrapup

Hello fellow bookworms 🌼 It’s already the start of a new month! It feels like I just wrote my last wrapup, yet here we are again. I cannot believe that we’re this far into 2021, it feels so surreal 😱 I’m a bit sad that my semester break is coming to an end in April, as I definitely needed more time to recover from the intensity of final season. However, I’m excited about my birthday gifts and even the beginning of spring 🌷 I’m trying to enjoy the last weeks of my break and I’m excited to fill them with as much blogging and reading as possible πŸ₯°

I read 9 books in March and was happy with my progress, given that I still had exams until halfway through the month and papers to hand in. Surprisingly, I reread a lot of books – more than I’ve reread in a long time – which is always comforting to me πŸ₯° I also participated in two Readathons – the WHM Readathon and Tome Topple – which was fun, as I’ve missed doing Readathons πŸ₯Ί I failed a bit at Tome Topple again, though I actually had time for once. I don’t know what it is but I never seem to be able to finish my tomes during the Readathon πŸ˜… I’m currently still reading A Dark and Hollow Star but by now the Readathon had ended already. Especially at the beginning of my break I wanted to read all the things at once, but that didn’t work out as I had many things to catch up on! I still hope to make use of my semester break in April, so I can read all the books that I’m most excited about right now πŸ’•

OC Update

I read 3 books out of my comfort zone this month and I’m happy with my progress so far. In Our Last Echoes, I found a book I really liked and can now say that the author is one of my favorites in the YA Mystery/Horror genre πŸ₯° Unfortunately I didn’t like Courting Darkness – YA Historical Fantasy – as much as the original His Fair Assassin book but I’m still curious to see what happens in the next book! And then … we already have a least favorite book of 2020 (and in general) πŸ˜… I just really didn’t get along with Furiously Happy and it was a bit of a chore to get through.

life stuff

I finally got my Semester Break! ✨ I had exams until Mid March, but after that the semester was finally over. I still had to do another paper, but it was an immense relief to have done my three exams. I also passed all of them, which is good!! πŸŽ‰ There was only one where I wasn’t happy with my grade, but the rest turned out great 😊 Part of me feels like this break is too short for the amount of stress I was under during finals season, but I’m trying to enjoy it as much as I can! It was amazing to finally get back to blogging as I really missed writing posts and truly interacting with you all πŸ₯Ί ❀ Just doing what I wanted and also being with my family again was really good for my Mental Health and needed in order to be ready for when the next semester comes!

Things that made me happy 😊

➽ Watching Shows ❀  I was barely able to watch anything at the beginning of the year, so it was great to have a bit more time during my break! My friend and I finished watching the first season of Cursed and watched the new Moxie movie, which was really great! We also watched Tiny Pretty Things – another book to TV adaption – and it was fantastic! Now I’m thinking about reading the book as well sometime πŸ₯°

➽ Starting The Magnus Archives πŸ’•Β This is all thanks to Veronika who recommended this podcast to me πŸ₯° TMA is a horror anthology with an overarching storyline and I was surprised by how much I fell in love with it! I’m the biggest scaredy cat out there but I was immediately hooked and it really helps that there’s always a list of content warnings for each episode. I’m almost halfway through and very invested in the characters and storylines, loving all of them so much πŸ₯Ί

➽ Making full use of my coloring books.Β Coloring relaxes me so much, but I never get around to doing it, as I always feel like I could be doing something else ‘more productive’. The trick for me was to listen to something while using my coloring book! This could be an audiobook, but in March it was predominatly the already mentioned Magnus Archives. This was such a good type of self-care for me and really helped me unwind ❀ The coloring book I was using is the Pusheen one because I like cats and it’s so adorable πŸ₯Ί

How I’m spending much of my semester break ❀

looking ahead

Hopefully good things are coming in April 🌷 I’m still on break for half the month and hope to make use of that time to relax as much as possible before my next semester of university starts up again! It’s also my birthday month, which is exciting because of gifts (mostly books and new games for my Nintendo) and being able to spend it at home with my family, before I have to get back to my flat πŸ₯° (The downside is getting older and more technically ‘adult’ πŸ˜…) It’s also the Easter Weekend and therefore time for one of my favorite Readathons of the year: the Easter Readathon, which is always fun and boosts my reading! My plans for April are largely reading, blogging, listening to the Magnus Archives and playing on my Nintendo DS πŸ’— After the fun times it’s back for my second semester of my Master’s degree and trying to somehow keep myself from being so stressed again. I’m trying not to think about it, but lots of courses and work are coming up, with me having the bad luck of 3 exams (again), but we’ll see how I handle it. The next exam season is still firmly in the far future! For now it’s time to enjoy the first rays of spring sunshine β˜€

  1. The Pusheen coloring book truly is wonderful. Pusheen in general brings me so much joy. I hope they come out with more coloring books in the future. Glad to hear your exams went well πŸ™‚

    1. I love Pusheen as well, it’s so cute, and the coloring book is so fantastic and wholesome to fill out πŸ₯° I’m really relieved to be on my semester break right now and relax a bit!

  2. I am glad your break helped in making you feel better by just doing whatever you wanted for a while. I wish it could be longer for you, but at least you have your birthday to look forward to!!!
I haven’t read Tiny Pretty Things, but I heard the book is quite different. In no way an authority on that though.

    Thanks for the shoutout ❀

    1. I feel like the break was over again so soon, but I’m happy for the time I got!! πŸ₯° I’m definitely curious to see how different the Tiny Pretty Things show is from the book, as I never read it πŸ‘€

  3. I definitely understand what you meant about coloring – I love coloring, plus when my mom saw me coloring one time she remarked that I looked so calm and relaxed. But I rarely color and I think I haven’t colored in about two years, which is a shame! I’m going to have to follow your idea and try listening to podcasts or audiobooks while coloring, the fact that I never paired these activities baffles me. I’ve just added Our Last Echoes to my tbr, it sounds really great. πŸ˜€ And I’ve said this at least ten times, but I’m so happy you’re loving Magnus!! (Also if you need podcast recs after Magnus, you know where to find me, I have A LOT, haha.) Thank you for highlighting our posts. πŸ˜€ Hope you’ll have a wonderful April!

    1. I love collecting coloring books, but I sadly rarely used them, but I finally made use of them during my break! And it was so good and relaxing, I need to do it more often, especially in combination with audiobooks and podcasts πŸ₯° I hope you end up liking Our Last Echoes, it was so good!! As you know, I’m loving Magnus so much and I’m definitely happy for any recommendations for when I finish it ❀ I hope you’re having a good April as well! πŸ’•

  4. Happy early birthday!! πŸ’š I hope you will be able to enjoy the remaining of your spring break!
I’m glad you found coloring a relaxing activity. Last year (or was it 2019? I don’t know) when I was into audiobooks, I also paired coloring with listening to a book but I quickly gave up. πŸ˜… It’s soothing but it’s also uncomfortable for my neck. πŸ˜‚
Looking forward to the readathon tbrs!

    1. Thank you so much, Morgan!! πŸ’• I always wanted to use coloring books more often and listening to audiobooks actually worked perfectly as it gave my mind something to focus on! Ohh yes, that’s the only downside, the position can get uncomfortable really fast πŸ˜… Thank you!

  5. OMG, I think the same, aren’t the months going too fast all of a sudden? Really crazy! πŸ˜… I’m SO glad you enjoyed Sadie, I love that book, you suffer while reading it but it’s so good at the same time πŸ₯Ίβœ¨ & I have Our Last Echoes on my TBR, so I guess I’ll have to prioritize it, it sounds great! πŸ˜πŸ‘πŸ»Thanks for mentioning my posts and it will always be a great support for me, you’re the best! Have the most beautiful April, darling ❀️❀️

    1. Furiously Happy just didn’t work for me at all, I definitely would have stopped after a couple of chapters if I hadn’t listened to the audiobook πŸ˜… Oh no, I’m sorry to hear that! I hope April is a better month for you πŸ₯°

  8. Happy April, Caro! Ahh I’m so happy you did the WHM Readathon and read some amazing books through it πŸ˜€ And thanks so much for sharing my post! Also, hooray for a semester break and getting to catch up on the things you enjoy doing ☺ I’ve heard sooo many good things about The Magnus Archives but I’m also a scaredy cat, so I’m glad to hear that you enjoyed it despite it being horror. I hope to listen to it at some point! Hope you have a lovely rest of your month ❀

My break is sadly almost over now, but I did take the time to catch up and relax a bit 😊 I’m such a big scaredy-cat as well, but surprisingly I loved The Magnus Archives – it definitely helps that there are content warnings for each episode! 9. yay for having a good break! i am glad to hear you enjoyed tiny pretty things, i actually had such a hard time with this show, but i do low-key think i’ll still watch season 2 whenever that comes out hahah

i’m glad coloring has also been helpful. now that i work with kids, i constantly see them coloring and i keep thinking about how *long* it’s been since i last did that. i was never a fan of coloring as a kid (my teachers would always complain about how bad my painting job was hahah), so i think i’ve developed a mental block towards it, lmao.

i hope you’re having a great april so far, caro! i’ve been loving your goodreads updates on the #readfatpositive books and i am looking forward to hear your thoughts on these books! (thanks for the shoutout as well!)

    1. My break is sadly already over, but I’m glad I could use it to relax! I wasn’t sure if I would like Tiny Pretty Things, but it was surprisingly a lot of fun and I’m curious for the next season πŸ˜„

I think I used to color a lot when I was younger, but then I got too busy for it and only rediscovered coloring later when I saw that there were Adult Coloring Books πŸ˜„ I’ve definitely found that listening to something while coloring helps me actually do it πŸ™‚

Thank you so much, I’m happy to hear that! I hope you’re also having a good April ❀
