Hello fellow bookworms 💕 It’s time to talk about 2021 releases again!! I always love talking about what books I’m anticipating and as we’re already in June now, I’m talking about my most anticipated releases for the second half of 2021 today! There are still some amazing books that I’m anticipating (18 books in total), but after writing this I realized how unevenly the are distributed over the months. Last year I barely had any anticipating summer releases and so many in October & November, but this year it’s the opposite 😂 Nevertheless, I’m very eager to read these (we’re not talking about all the new releases from the beginning of the year that I haven’t read yet), so let’s start 🥰
Me trying to keep up with all the new releases
Note 🌻 As always I tried to include the representation of the books on my list, please let me know if I missed something or got something wrong! I’ve also included a link to the Goodreads pages of the books in my post, just click the cover! 😊
What We Devour (Linsey Miller) 💕 Expected Publication: July 7th 💖 Ace MC ➽ By the time this post is up I might have already read this, as I got an Arc for it!! I loved Linsey Miller’s 2020 release ‘Belle Révolte’ and was so excited to see that she has a new book coming up! What We Devour is a darker Fantasy book about a girl hiding the fact that she possesses power of the old gods and being forced to work with the prince of her kingdom. It has a lot of discussion about morality, sacrifice and mysterious dark forces plaguing the world, which I immediately found intriguing
The Taking of Jake Livingston (Ryan Douglass) 💕 Expected Publication: July 13th 💖 Queer Black MC ➽ This only recently appeared on my radar, as I’ve been wanting to read more books with a light horror element! This is about a boy named Jake who can see the dead. Mostly they are harmless but then he gets caught in the game of a serial killer ghost who is turning everything into a game of survival. I already have a feeling that this is going to be such an atmospheric book full of tension!!
XOXO (Axie Oh) 💕 Expected Publication: July 13th 💖 Korean-American MC ➽ I loved Axie Oh’s sci-fi debut and I’m so happy that she’s getting to publish even more books! I don’t know much about K-Pop to be honest, but I’m interested to learn more about it through this book. XOXO is about a young Korean-American girl who has a meet cute with an attractive guy only to find out that he’s a famous K-Pop Idol who isn’t allowed to date her 😱 This sounds like so much fun drama!
The Dead and the Dark (Courtney Gould) 💕 Expected Publication: August 3rd 💖 Lesbian MC ➽ I got an Arc and therefore already read this and it was fantastic!!! The Dead and the Dark is about a girl and her ghost-hunting Dads who arrive in the mysterious town of Snakebite, Oregon that is plagued by paranormal occurrences and kidnappings I had such a good time reading this, as it was really addictive and was the perfect blend of mystery and coming of age! ❤ There is a great slowburn romance, though I’d say it’s more of a subplot and not the focus of the story, as the mystery is pretty much at the forefront of the book!
Like a Love Song (Gabriela Martins) 💕 Expected Publication: August 3rd 💖 Latina MC ➽ I’m not normally that into Fake Dating, but this book just sounds too good! Like a Love Song is about “a Latina teen pop star whose image takes a dive after a messy public breakup, until she’s set up with a swoon-worthy fake boyfriend” which is such an intriguing premise! I have a feeling like this could have drama of the fun kind and as soon as I discovered it, I knew I had to read this! 🥰
Dark Waters (Katherine Arden) 💕 Expected Publication: August 3rd 💖 Book 3 in Small Spaces Series ➽ Ever since I read Small Spaces last year I have been in love with this Middle Grade Horror series! It’s about three kids who encounter paranormal occurrences and can’t quite seem to escape them. The first book can be read as a Standalone but I love that the author expands the universe by letting the characters have more adventures in different settings. Each book stands for one season and Dark Waters is about Summer, which is perfect for its release date and makes for a good spooky book to read in the sun ☀
A Lesson in Vengeance (Victoria Lee) 💕 Expected Publication: August 3rd 💖 Lesbian MC ➽ Victoria Lee has a new book coming out!! I loved her Fever King Duology and have been excited for her newest release 🥰 A Lesson in Vengeance is a “dark, twisty, atmospheric thriller about a boarding school haunted by its history of witchcraft and two girls dangerously close to digging up the past” which already sounds so good! I’m ready for some Sapphic Dark Academia, especially as this also has Fantasy element and I know that I love the author’s writing 💗
Phantom Heart (Gabriela Martins) 💕 Expected Publication: August 17th 💖 ➽ This is a Phantom of the Opera retelling and though I don’t really know the source material I was drawn in by the premise! I was also fortunate enough to get an Arc of this 🥰 Phantom Heart is about a girl whose new home is subject to paranormal occurrences and draws the interest of an enthusiastic boy. There seems to also be a love triangle involving a mysterious boy visiting her dreams, which I’m not too fond of, but I like the supernatural vibes this premise gives off! 👀
The Girls are Never Gone (Sarah Glenn Marsh) 💕 Expected Publication: September 7th 💖 Sapphic MC ➽ I got super intrigued by The Girls are Never Gone, as I have been wanting to read a book by Sarah Glenn Marsh for ages and this one looks super creepy (the cover alone is giving me chills) The book is about about girl who doesn’t believe in ghosts but has a “brand-new paranormal investigation podcast” and gets drawn into a dangerous mystery! I love books that have a podcast element, so I’m really looking forward to this 🥰
Under the Whispering Door (T.J. Klune) 💕 Expected Publication: September 21st 💖 Queer MC, Grief ➽ One of the most recent books I added to my anticipated releases list was Under the Whispering Door, an upcoming book I hadn’t paid too much attention to because I didn’t like T.J. Klune’s YA book last year. But then I read The House in the Cerulean Sea and fell in love with it! Under the Whispering Door seems similar to it, so I knew I had to read it. It has a ghost who refuses to cross over into the afterlife and falls in love with a reaper 👀
The Bronzed Beasts (Roshani Chokshi) 💕 Expected Publication: September 21st 💖 PoC, Disabled & Queer MC’s 📚 Conclusion to The Gilded Wolves ➽ Roshani Chokshi is one of my favorite authors and I have loved her The Gilded Wolves series so much ❤ Sadly it’s now coming to an end with the third and final book … and I’m nervous. The second book was sad and brutal, which makes me wonder how things will end and if there is going to be a bittersweet ending 😱
Vespertine (Margaret Rogerson) 💕 Expected Publication: September 28th 💖 ➽ Finally another Margaret Rogerson book!!!! I loved her Fantasy standalones An Enchantment of Ravens and Sorcery of Thorns so much and count them among my favorite books, so I have been hoping she’d write another book 🙏 There was a 2 year gap between books now and I was relieved to hear that we get new content soon! Vespertine is about a nun “awakens an ancient spirit bound to a saint’s relic” and is the only one who might be able to stop a war. I believe this isn’t a standalone but set in a larger Fantasy universe! ❤
You’d Be Home Now (Kathleen Glasgow) 💕 Expected Publication: September 28th 💖 Possibly Mental Health Rep ➽ I had no idea Kathleen Glasgow had a new book coming out until a couple of days ago! 😱 I love the author’s books and How to Make Friends with the Dark was one of my favorite books of 2020! I was eagerly waiting for her to announce a new book, as she has become an auto-buy author for me! You’d Be Home Now is a book about the secrets and tragedies of a small-town & I believe also deals with addiction and other mental health issues.
Daughter of the Deep (Rick Riordan) 💕 Expected Publication: October 5th 💖 ➽ Rick Riordan has a new book set outside the Percy Jackson Universe coming out and I couldn’t be more excited! He’s already one of my favorite authors and I’m eager for his next project, it’ll be interesting to enter a brand new world 🥰 Daughter of the Deep is about a renowned academy that offers courses on marine biology, navigation and underwater exploring ~ however there also seems to be a Fantasy element and a Mystery happening as well, so I’m intrigued!
All the Feels (Olivia Dade) 💕 Expected Publication: October 26th 💖 Fat MC 📚 Companion to Spoiler Alert ➽ I loved Spoiler Alert so of course I’m excited! All the Feels centers on two side characters from the first book which I was already invested in and hoped to read more of, so it couldn’t be more perfect for me!! One of them is a famous actor whose career is surrounded by scandals and the smart woman who was hired to keep him in check
A Marvellous Light (Freya Marske) 💕 Expected Publication: November 2nd 💖 Gay MC, m/m romance ➽ I only saw A Marvellous Light added by someone on Goodreads recently but it sounded so good and immediately caught my eye ~ it’s about a young man who suddenly gets involved with a hidden magical society and needs to deal with a prickly librarian who doesn’t seem to excited about having to work with him.. It has so many of my favorite buzzwords: magic! historical fantasy! libraries! m/m enemies to lovers pairing!! ❤
Gilded (Marissa Meyer) 💕 Expected Publication: November 2nd 💖 ➽ I haven’t been reading much by Marissa Meyer lately (I still haven’t finished Renegades and removed Instant Karma from my TBR), but I’m excited for this new book coming out! Gilded is another (Rumpelstiltskin) retelling which Meyer is fantastic at writing and I’m not normally a retelling fan at all. The book is about a young girl who gets in trouble and is taken to the world of the Erlking where she enlists the help of a mysterious stranger to escape her predicament 👀
All of Us Villains (Amanda Foody & Christine Lynn Herman) 💕 Expected Publication: November 11th 💖 Queer MC’s ➽ I still haven’t finished the Ace of Shades Trilogy but Amanda Foody is one of my favorite authors, simply because Ace of Shades was such a fantastic book! I honestly cannot wait to read her newest book, which is actually co-authored by an author friend of hers. All of Us Villains is a Hunger Games style book about the champions of 7 families who compete for their exclusive right to access the city’s magic resource ~ it’s a tournament to the death 😱
Honorable Mentions ❤
