What I’ve been up to in November πŸƒ Uni Stress & other Disasters

November Wrapup

Hello fellow bookworms πŸƒ For some reason this month was truly cursed for me πŸ™ˆ I just had a lot of bad luck with things not working out, University stress and generally either feeling emotionally exhausted or super anxious. I really hope that you all had a much better month than I did (if you have some good news, feel free to share it)! I’m more excited than ever before that it’s finally December and I hope that I can leave the disasters of November behind to finally get into the festive/wintery mood ❄

I read 11 books in November. That might sound good but my reading was a mixed back. Good things first: I found TWO favorite news books – Under the Whispering Door & The Comfort Book – that brought me a lot of comfort and joy πŸ₯° I also managed to catch up on quite a few 2021 releases that I had been anticipating and I liked most of them! There was also another quick 48 Hour Round of the GraphicsAthon at the beginning of the month which was nice 😊 Quantity-wise I read as many books as I usually do, but I was feeling very slumpy, especially towards the end of the month. The stress and general feeling of exhaustion made it really hard to motivate myself to read … that was very frustrating. Apart from the 2021 releases, I also didn’t make progress with any of my End of the Year Reading Plans and despite planning to tackle my Kindle/Physical TBR, I entirely read library books πŸ˜” I’ll have to push many books into the new year, as I already have a wintery/festive December TBR.

OC Update

I read 6 books out of my comfort zone this month, which I’m really happy with as it’s more than my monthly average! I found not one, but TWO new favorites outside of my comfort zone: Under the Whispering Door (Adult Fantasy) and The Comfort Book (Adult Nonfiction) πŸ’• I also thoroughly enjoyed The Anthropocene Reviewed (Adult Nonfiction) and Something Is Killing the Children Vol 3. (Horror Graphic Novel). Sadly, I was highly anticipating A Lesson in Vengeance (YA Dark Academia/Mystery) and Ace of Spades (YA Mystery/Thriller), but was feeling a bit let down by them πŸ˜”

life stuff

For some reason, November was full of university stress & disasters πŸ₯Ί This was probably the worst month so far this year as I had a bunch of bad luck. I was still struggling to adjust to this semester, as I have fewer classes but a bigger workload due to two big group projects. I also felt stressed out about getting an internship for next year and had a long weekend seminar. Good news among the bad: I got the internship I applied to and the seminar turned out to be really nice! I hope December will be a bit less intense work-wise. Apart from University, there were a couple stressful events that made me anxious. Both my bed and my laptop were nearing their end, but due to shortages it wasn’t that easy to get a replacement. I managed to get a new bed and a new laptop, though it was an ordeal (they sent me a laptop that wasn’t working and I had to return it + search for a new model). Whenever I felt like it was over, a new minor disaster would pop up πŸ™ˆ These things might be more manageable for other people, but my anxious self always feels overwhelmed very quickly, especially with the pressure from university on top πŸ˜… Not to mention the fact that cases have exploded around here and have me very worried. This is all very gloomy, so if you have any good news please tell me πŸ’•

✨ Highlights ✨

➽ What I Watched in November ❀  My friend and I finished watching Locke & Key S2 (really hoping that there will be a next season!). We also watched The Woods S1 (a Polish Netflix Original Mystery) and Lupin Part 1 (French Netflix Original Mystery – it’s SO good!!) 😊 I also finally got around to watching the new season of Nailed It! – a silly but fun Baking Show that brings me comfort!

➽ Distracting myself with Hyrule Warriors & Playthroughs! Once again I played a lot of Hyrule Warriors on my Nintendo DS but towards the end of the month I stopped doing that for a while, as I was so busy. I still had a good time and also started watching Playthroughs of games I found interesting. I find that very comforting πŸ₯°

➽ My parents coming to visit me! I really needed something good to happen this month and it was nice to see my family again and show them around my city. We did some Christmas shopping, had coffee and a nice dinner πŸ’•

looking ahead

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas πŸŽ„ I can finally leave November behind and welcome my favorite time of the year: December!! I hope my bad mood doesn’t carry over into the new month, as I really want to get a bit festive and enjoy winter. I’m hoping we’ll have some snow again this year and I have already decorated my flat for Christmas πŸŽ… My plans for December are to read some festive/wintery books and take some time for self-care πŸ™ I’m also very excited for my winter break and Christmas of course 😊

Time to get ready for my favorite time of the year πŸ₯°

My December TBR is already up ❀

  6. Don’t feel too guilty on not yet tackling your end of the year reading plans. I planned on reading all things fantasy and I just…haven’t. I have been eyeing Something Is Killing the Children. I really want to explore more horror graphic novels. I hope your December is better than your November and that the holiday season brings lots of magic and good things your way.

Yay for finding some new favorite books, but sorry about the ones that weren’t as good as you’d hoped. I love the show Nailed It! I need to watch some more. It does make me so happy.

  14. i am sorry to hear november was such a challenging month for you, caro! likewise here, november was soooo stressful it’s ridiculous, hahah. but i do hope we both have a much better december! and congrats on getting the internship!!!! that’s amazing news!

i would be very interested in reading a review of yours for ace of spades. i did really enjoy the book, but i felt like the ending was a bit too convenient and unrealistic. like, it didn’t seem true at all that devon would just share one tweet, while having zero followers, about how his school was racist, and immediately people would believe him so much to go riot at the school? like…. what? lol. like i said, i loved the story, but i remember that the ending made me a bit disappointed.

ahh, i hope you do watch part 2 of lupin! it is just as good and i love the characters! i am glad to hear you had family over and i hope your holiday season gets to be just as lovely and cozy! wishing you an amazing december❀️

    1. Idk what it was about November, but for some reason this month was one of the most stressful πŸ˜… I had a much better December and hope the same was the case for you πŸ™πŸ’— I’m SO behind on reviews, but I definitely plan on reviewing Ace of Spades on Goodreads! I struggled the most with the beginning, but also thought some of the plot points in the end were very convenient and not that realistic πŸ˜…
I did watch Part 2 of Lupin this December! It was amazing and I’m so glad that there will be a third part coming πŸ₯° Thank you! I hope you also had some lovely holidays and will have a great new year πŸŽ‡
