What I’ve been up to in December πŸŽ„Christmas & End of the Year Planning

December Wrapup

Hello fellow bookwormsπŸŽ„ I cannot believe that we’re already past Christmas and into the new year again 😱 Time flies by so fast every year, but at least December was a much better month compared to the disaster that was November! There wasn’t as much stress or things going wrong/breaking down, so I was able to calm down a bit and enjoy some quieter moments 😊 It was much needed and helped me deal better with the workload and end of the year plans. I hope you also had a good ending to this year πŸ™

I read 25 books in December which is the most I have read in a month … ever I think 😱 To be honest, this is mostly because a.) I had so much fun reading festive books, b.) used lots of audiobooks, c.) generally read shorter books/graphic novels, d.) reread a ton of booksΒ  and e.) wasn’t as busy compared to November 😊 I’m very fortunate that I loved almost all of the books I read. I reread many of my seasonal favorites and checked out sequels to wintery/festive series I wanted to continue πŸ₯° (I’m still behind on reviews, as I … didn’t write any, but I hope to catch up in January before I have to study for exams again!)

OC Update

I read 6 books out of my comfort zone this month and 5 of them were even (New) Adult books! Finishing off the year with a bang πŸŽ‡ I loved most of the books that I read in December: Sugar & Spice, The First Noel and Secret Santa (New Adult Romances) as well as In a Holidaze (Adult Romance) & A Holiday by Gaslight (Adult Historical Fiction novella). The only disappointment was The Bear and the Nightingale (YA Historical Fantasy) it was enjoyable but nowhere near as good as I expected after hearing so much praise πŸ₯Ί

life stuff

Festive Times, Winter Break & End of the Year πŸŽ„πŸŽ‡ I wasn’t feeling quite as festive compared to other years, but with the case numbers rising, this wasn’t much of a surprise. I still had a lovely festive time and made an effort to feel cozy by consuming wintery/christmassy things, be it food, books or TV πŸŽ… I also went home for Christmas! I got home a week early (we literally had class until Dec 23rd) as most teachers switched to online classes only for the last week, as so many people weren’t going to attend in person. I spend three weeks at home which was nice and this winter break was much needed to reset myself and improve my mental health πŸ’« I also enjoyed doing all of my favorite end of the year things: like planning, organizing and writing my best-of lists. I like reflecting on the year after Christmas and trying to figure out what things I’m looking forward to πŸ’Œ

πŸ’« Highlights πŸ’«

➽ What I Watched in December ❀  My friend and I finished watchingΒ Lupin Part 2 (just as great as the first season), Money Heist Part 5.2 (such a good finale! Part 5 is probably my favorite) and also watched the first season of Elves (Danish Netflix Original that’s both festive and creepy) 😊 We also watched Dumplin’ and Ponyo at the end of the year, both excellent movies πŸ’• Obviously, I also rewatched a ton of Christmas movies, the new ones I saw were David and the Elves, Princess Switch 3, Robin Robin and Single All the Way πŸŽ„

➽ Enjoying the small things! I was much more at peace compared to November and had some smaller, lovely moments. These were things like going out for breakfast and dinner with university friends and finally sitting down in Starbucks to read my book with a coffee πŸ’•

➽ Christmas & New Year’s Eve/Preparations! πŸ’• As much as I cannot believe another year is over, I really like December, as it has two of my favorite celebrations 1.) Christmas and 2.) New Year’s Eve. I loved spending the holidays with my family and I had so much fun preparing for 2022 by setting up my reading challenges, making goals and lists of what things I’m anticipating πŸ’«

looking ahead

It’s a brand new year ahead of us! πŸŽ‡ I hope it’s much kinder than the past years and I hope you’re all doing well πŸ’• There’s something magical about the new year for me, even now, a kind of reset that I know is articifical but still enjoy πŸ₯° I love finding new favorites, starting new reading challenges and making up new bookish goals πŸ’Œ I’m very happy with the new challenges I have joined and I cannot wait to do more themed reading again this year! I stopped doing it in the last two years, but feel like it always boosts my reading and gets me excited to read many books πŸ’« Starting this year, I’ll be sharing what top books I want to read for #DevourYourTBR and other books I’m meaning to get to πŸ’•

I hope you all had a good start into the new year πŸ₯°

  1. Happy holidays and happy new year, Caro! I’m so glad you got the chance to got back home, relax and just have fun in December ❀ I'm sad you didn't enjoy The Bear and the Nightingale as it's one of my favorite book, but I do understand why it might not for everyone πŸ˜€ I'm currently reading In A Holidaze and despite really enjoyed it, I just seem to be not in the right mood for it :/ Hopefully it won't affect my enjoyment too much!

      1. Woah, woah, woah now! Just kidding, I didn’t like book 2, but I did enjoy book 3 a lot. It’s honestly too long to remember book 1 in detail. However, I do remember adoring it, so it might just stick at the number one spot for me, because I refuse to reread things I loved haha

Although I only managed to read 2 books (one a graphic novel) so I haven’t got the balance right πŸ˜… I also watched some festive movies, I really enjoyed LoveHard!!

Also, I cannot believe you read 25 books in December. Like, WHAT. Do you have a clone? Have you evolved to a point where you no longer need to sleep or eat? I’ve really got to up my game…

  6. 25 books is amazing, and even better that you loved nearly all of them! I have never heard of Winterhouse but the cover looks so cute that I may have to check it out 😊 I’m also really intrigued by your thoughts on Bear and the Nightingale! Sad that it didn’t live up to the hype for you πŸ€” but now that I think of I feel that I don’t actually remember much of the plot – it would be really nice to reread it and see if my thoughts on it have changed! Hope you have an amazing reading year ahead of you in 2022 ☺️
