Hello fellow bookworms πΈ May felt incredibly long for some reason π When I looked back, I was surprised that some things happened this month and not ages ago! At the same time, my internship is also halfway done and that happened so fast even though May felt really long π
I know it’s already June, but I’m planning on doing another Reading Diary for @clearursht and would love to know what books you’re most interested in hearing my thoughts on! If you want please fill out my Google form as I really want to talk about the books you’re most interested in π

I read 18 books in May and I have no idea how π I mean there were some things that definitely helped me. Once again audiobooks came to the rescue (I listened to 7, probably a personal record) and I also reread 5 graphic novels I loved. When it comes to other books (e-books or physical – 6 books in total), I struggled a bit more to pick them up in the evening when my mind was still stuck on my internship. I’m happy that I could read so many books about Mental Health though, which was my main focus this month π While there were some disappointments, I also found a new 5-star read and generally had some lovely, positive surprises!
I read 4 books out of my comfort zone this month! This is definitely much less compared to the previous months, but I focused on other things this May, so I don’t really mind π I had two hits (Anxious People and My Friend Anna), but also two misses (As Good As Dead and A Brush with Love) – it was a pretty mixed month in terms of enjoyment in this section!

May was SO long and busy π Β For some reason so much happened that I already forgot half of what happened at the beginning of the month! My internship continues to be good (we have reached the halfway point!), I love my colleagues and the work itself is also interesting π There was some drama about our home office days, as the institution had major communication issues. Some people said it would go from 3 to 2 days of home office, but others insisted we’d have to return the full 5 days even though this isn’t necessary for this type of work π In the end, we now have at least 2 home office days, but it was a stressful back and forth. I’m glad that we still can work from home because ever since my country lifted the mask mandate, I have felt increasingly unsafe and anxious in public. I know I’m not the only person struggling with this, but the ‘pandemic is over’ narrative scares and enrages me in equal measure.
My mental health got a bit worse towards the middle of the month because of the sheer unfairness and hopelessness for the future. As for my EKG results from last month, thankfully there wasn’t anything horrible, just a bit during the night, so I’ll have a follow-up in August. Still, I don’t feel 100% free from it. It didn’t help that none of my friends had any time to meet up this month, so I was left alone with my anxious mind π Then, I also have to apply for my Master thesis and it’ll be stressful as well! I already handed in two applications and they usually want interviews, so I’m pretty nervous. There are enough topics for everyone, but of course I want something that actually interests me. Good vibes appreciated β
π« What I Watched in May π«
Β
- Heartstopper (S1) ~ Obviously, this was fantastic!! Such a good book to screen adaptation and already one of my favorite shows of the year π
- Bridgerton (S2) ~ Like I’ve seen many people say, this was much better than S1! Probably, because I preferred Anthony and Kate as a couple π₯°
- The Adam Project (S2) ~ This is a fun sci-fi/time travel movie I watched with a friend and while it wasn’t anything mind-blowing, it was fun!
- Welcome to Eden (S1) ~ A Spanish Netflix Original about an Island and a cultish community! I feel like this could have been stronger, but I’m curious about the next season π
We’re reaching the middle of the year already π± I cannot quite believe it! June will be mostly spent with my internship and trying to get a Master thesis for next semester. I only have one more week in July then, before I have some time off! My main source of excitement in June will be the #ClearUrSht Readathon that runs the entire month π₯° It’s all about reading your unread owned books, so the perfect challenge for me. Most of my physical TBR is here on my university bookshelf, so now is the time to get those books read. Having so many physical books from years ago has increasingly made me unhappy, so I’m working on tackling some books I hauled ages ago as well!
I’m also participating in the Books out of the Blue Bingo, it’s a 2-month-long Discord server challenge with lots of cool bingo boeard and I think it’ll be lots of fun π If you want an invite, it’s best to contact Destiny! Here are some options I have:
π #ClearUrSht Readathon π
This month I’ll be joining ClearUrSht to tackle my owned books! Check out my post down below π I’ll also read some queer books for Pride Month of course π
What were you up to in March? What was your favorite book? What’s your favorite historical fiction book? π·
Ahhh, sorry you felt anxious a loads of times this month. And also that you couldnβt meet up with friends. π
I got my fingers crossed that you get a really interesting thesis topic! π And thatβs great youβre enjoying the internship!
Wishing you a lovely June!

Definitely sending you good vibes!! I totally get the anxiety that comes with people just dismissing the pandemic like that. Just this past month, five people I know got infected and while they are alright now, I have family members that are currently dealing with health issues and the thought of them getting exposed or me getting it again is just terrifying. I’ve skipped out on social events because of it and I hate it. π¦ But I keep doing my part and the rest is out of my hands.

Thank you so much, Kat! π I feel this so much! During my internship two people at work had it and luckily they isolated before anyone could catch it. I’m still wearing my mask everywhere, but so many aren’t as diligent anymore. I hope you’re still doing well! π

I’m so sorry your mental health wasn’t great last month! I hope June is better for you. β₯ I totally get you feeling so anxious about the pandemic, and the general hopelessness and everything. It’s really hard not to just spiral and dwell on it all the time lately. π but I really do hope the coming month is kinder to you! And thank you for the shout out β₯

Thank you, Destiny! π If not for my Master’s applications (still ongoing π but the end is near) it would be a lot better tbh. I don’t watch the news anymore to not spiral, as it’s disheartening. I hope you’re still doing well π

I am sorry to hear May was a bit of a rough month for you. I can certainly relate to feeling helpless about certain things. I am glad the internship is going well though and I am sending good vibes your way for your masters thesis. I hope June is a better month for you, and you can meet up with your friends soon! π
I am glad you enjoyed Anxious People (I would love to read this book) and it is nice to see a good review for Lost in the Never Woods, as it hasn’t been the most popular book in the community!
Again, best wishes for June and thank you sooo much for sharing my posts β€οΈπ

Thank you so much, Sophie! π I’m close to getting my Master thesis topic and with the weather being so great, I’m meeting up with my friends for a picnic this weekend π₯° Anxious People surprised me by how much fun it was, I recommend the audiobook – it was well narrated! Lost in the Never Woods was so much better than I expected from all the mixed reviews!
Thank you, I hope you’re having a good June π₯°

itβs so interesting you read my friend anna, i started watching the show but i wasnβt really feeling it so i have yet to finish the season. also: i need to know your true feelings about no filter and other lies!!!! the book sounded so interesting and i really wanted to pick it up. i am mostly interested to know how you truly felt about the fat rep in that one.
may really was the longest month ever omg so much happened it was never ending!!!! i am glad you get to have some home office days at least. unfortunately, i have to go in-person for my job every day and i would love to have some more home office time
i am wishing you all the luck on your application, iβm sure everything will work out!!! hope you have a fantastic june!

I liked the show, but I feel like the last episodes were much weaker π My Friend Anna was super interesting though, as it had a different perspective from the TV Show! No Filter and Other Lies had some good things going for it, but I hated the main character’s friends (they were so unsupportive and competitive with her) and how her complicated family dynamics were handled π I thought the fat rep was good though!
May was truly so long, meanwhile June is flying by π± I’m sorry to hear that you have to go back to the office every day of the week π Home Office is so practical, I wish more companies would keep it!
Thank you!! I hope you’re well π

i hope your anxiety lessens at least a little bit for june! i feel you on the pandemic anxiety… after being in thailand and seeing how strict so many protocols are still, it makes the difference with the us even starker and more concerning (even though i already knew we were so lax about everything before). i’m just hoping that the colder seasons won’t cause too much of an increase in cases π¦ sending you all the good vibes with everything with your masters thesis!!! you got this β€

Thank you, May! π Yes, I feel like most western countries are SO bad with the precautions and have this very individualistic mindset that makes people believe they don’t have any responsibility to protect others π I hope you had a good time in Thailand though! Thank you so much!! I hope you’re doing well π₯°
