Magical Readathon ~ Orilium πŸ’« Autumn Equinox TBR

Autumn Equinox

Hello fellow bookworms πŸ’« It’s once again time for the Magical Readathon! This is my favorite Readathon and I’m SO excited that it’s back. Once again the host (and her team of helpers) put in so much effort to make this a great event and I cannot wait for all the things happening soon πŸ’• I’ve got some information about the Readathon (and what is planned for next month) and my TBR for you! πŸ₯°

✨ Overview ✨

  1. Information about the Readathon
  2. Calling & Guild Tiers

What is the new Magical Readathon about?

This new version of the Magical Readathon takes place on a planet called Aeldia, which is inhabited by a variety of species, who each have their own culture and magical talents. Magic emerged in this world following a meteor impact and infused it with a magical energy called Ammelorite. People studied and learned to control magic which turned into the Orilium Academy being founded. The first installment of the Readathon was hosted throughout September 2021 and focused on the Novice Path in order to reach the Academy!

The next part of the Readathon is this August and is called the Autumn Equinox! It’s the second semester of our ‘characters’ studying at the Orilium Academy and taking classes (with corresponding reading prompts). What classes you take once again depends on the Calling you have chosen for your character. This time there is a distinction between three grades (Ordinary, Qualified, Distinguished) that can be achieved in each class. Based on your Calling you have to fulfill certain grades (sometimes all 3 in one subject, sometimes only one). In almost all cases that means reading more books than in April. There will be quests again, but this time they are not limited and can be chosen by everyone! A Magical Allnighter (24-Hour Readathon) is planned for August 20th-21stπŸ’•

My Character’s Calling: Archmage ✨

Key Traits ✨ Hungry for Knowledge – Diplomatic – Leader – Curious

I’m continuing with my ARCHMAGE calling which means that I need to read 8 books this round!Β I have also calculated the points I earned for my Guild (you get points for completing the semester and any quests you do). I got 140 points so far (50 for the Novice Path, 50 for the Spring Semester, and 30 for quests) which gives me character a higher rank (Assistant instead of Initiate) and technically the reward of being able to count DNFs for the Readathon (though I don’t DNF books).

Autumn Equinox TBR: Mandatory Classes ✨

Alchemy

Ordinary Basics of Poison: Book on someone’s worst list you think you might like

The Queen’s Rising (Rebecca Ross) ➽ I love this prompt because it’s so unlike what I would usually do (pick up books people have loved)! I found my book on Sophie’s disappointing books of the year list. I have had The Queen’s Rising on my TBR for years and never picked it up despite it being one of my most anticipated releases πŸ™ˆ I still think I’d like this, so I’m finally picking it up!

QualifiedAcidic Amber: Read an orange book

Fat Chance, Charlie Vega (Crystal Maldonado) ➽ This is another book I keep meaning to read! I wasn’t a fan of the author’s other book – No Filter and Other Lies – so I hope that I will enjoy Charlie Vega a lot more πŸ™πŸ» We’ll see how it goes, but I would really like to give Crystal Maldonado another chance!

DistinguishedWilloweed: One Word Title

Captured (M.N. Jolley) ➽ I read Accused last year and was super hyped that this self-published urban fantasy series finally has a sequel πŸ₯³ It’s about a queer autistic man getting involved in dangerous murders and disappearance of the magical world, all while trying to establish his newspaper πŸ˜„

Artificery

Ordinary Arcane Engineering Lvl. 1: Book featuring Artificial Intelligence

Cytonic (Brandon Sanderson) ➽ I didn’t plan on reading Cytonic so soon, but this prompt was a good excuse to get to it! This is the third book in the Skyward series and features an artificial intelligence called M-Bot that I love so much πŸ₯° I cannot wait to see where this story goes next, the books are always much fun!

Inscription

Ordinary Recollection Glyph: A childhood favorite

Reckless 4: The Silver Tracks (Cornelia Funke) ➽ I have to admit that I struggled with this prompt, because I really didn’t feel like rereading a childhood favorite πŸ™ˆ Instead I choose to read a book from one of my favorite childhood authors and the continuation of a series I read when I was younger! I enjoy the Reckless books and I still haven’t read the fourth one, so it’s finally time!

QualifiedInking Techniques: Read a graphic novel, manga, or comic

Crumbs (Danie Stirling) ➽ There were lots of options, but I decided to read Crumbs because it looks super cute and cozy πŸ₯° This used to be a webtoon comic (which is where I’ll be reading it), but was picked up to become a graphic novel!

Spells and Incantations

Ordinary Recolour Spell: Use a colour wheel to pick a book matching said colour

Book Lovers (Emily Henry) ➽ I love this idea and the colour I got was cyan/blue!! That was perfect, as I just bought Book Lovers when I was on holiday and after loving the author’s other romance books, I’m very hyped to read this one πŸ₯°

QualifiedEcho Incantation: Find someone else’s TBR and pick a book from theirs

See You Yesterday (See You Yesterday) ➽ Lots of people are posting their TBR’s in the Discord, so I picked this from one of my fellow guild members πŸ’œ I love Rachel Lynn Solomon’s books and I was hoping to fit her newest book into my TBR somehow – it has college, enemies to lovers AND time travel πŸ₯°

Autumn Equinox TBR: Quests ✨

Adventure Board

  • The Dragon’s Promise (Elizabeth Lim) ➽ Paid Animal Therapy: More than one animal on the cover or title
  • The Library of the Unwritten (A.J. Hackwith) ➽ Study Buddy Required: Book with morally grey characters
  • House of Earth and Blood (Sarah J. Maas) ➽ Guild Events Preparations: Buddy read a book
  • The Mighty Heart of Sunny St. James (Ashley Herring Blake) ➽ Amphibian Wranglers Wanted: Author name starts with a B or F

  1. This readathon really goes above and beyond in the best way. I hope you have the best time with it and good luck on all your reading adventures. πŸ₯°
I really like the prompt to read a book from someone most disappointing books list… Because it is so different and I am really intrigued to hear what you think to Queen’s Rising. I am honoured to have been included in this prompt πŸ˜‚β€οΈ… And I did like the world & writing so I hope you enjoy those aspects at least. I also really hope you like Fat Chance, Charlie Vega because I would love to read this book too.
    And Crumbs, how cute 😍✨😍

    1. Thank you so much, Sophie – I’m very hyped for the Readathon πŸ₯° The prompt was intriguing and it was fate when I saw The Queen’s Rising on your list as I keep putting it off πŸ˜‚ I’m also curious what I’ll think about Fat Chance, Charlie Vega – especially as I didn’t really like her other book πŸ˜… Crumbs looks SO cozy, I hope I enjoy it 😊
