What I’ve been up to in July 🌊 Vacation & Heat Waves

July Wrapup

Hello fellow bookworms 🌊 Yet another month has passed by and we’re right in the middle of summer, which meant a huge heatwave for Europe 🥵 I don’t like the warm weather (I’m much more of an autumn/winter person) and the heatwave was worrying because of climate change as well. Nevertheless, I managed to enjoy the beginning of my semester break and wind down a bit 🥰

I read 14 books in July! In the beginning of the month I was struggling with picking up books because I was stressed, but once my internship was over it got a lot better! I tried to read some summery books but apart from that I just picked up what I was in the mood for 😄 I also made full use of reading outside when the weather wasn’t too hot. I’m visiting my parents for my semester break and they have a porch that’s perfect for reading 🥰 I never used to be a big fan of reading outside, but I realized how much fun and distraction free it is! I was craving a Readathon for a bit, but decided to not join one as the Magical Readathon is coming up next month!

OC Update (1)

I read 7 books out of my comfort zone this month! I liked all of the books I read which was a bonus 💕 I also finally discovered Emily Henry and her romance books are working well for me, so I’m reading Book Lovers next month! My nonfiction of the month was Do Nothing, a really great examination of working/hustle culture and toxic productivity!

📚 Bingo Board Update 📚

The Books out of the Blue Bingo (a 2-month-long Discord server challenge by Destiny) is coming to an end in July and I managed to work on another bingo board, though I didn’t fill in all the spaces! This challenge was so much fun, I’m sad it’s over now 🥺

life stuff

I finished my internship & finally went on vacation!! I cannot believe that my internship is over, as I thought it would feel SO long! I’m kind of a bit sad as everyone was so nice and I felt really welcome 🥺 Since I’m still at university I might hear from them again them! Afterward I had a little staycation where I just read, watched videos, and caught up with what I missed 🥰 I also took a short 4-day trip to a lake with my family. Sadly it was right when the heat wave hit (without any aircon) so I was melting 🥵 It was still nice though as I LOVE water and we don’t have any big lakes here! 🌊

💫 What I Watched in July 💫

Endlich: Erster Trailer zu The Umbrella Academy Staffel 3! | Moviejones

  • The Umbrella Academy (S3) ~ I love this show and I also loved this season!! I think they managed to address some things from the previous seasons that didn’t get as much time and I enjoyed the new storylines as well 💕 Everything else is spoilery 👀
  • Stranger Things (S4.2) ~ The second part of the season was only two episodes long (but they were movie-length) and I really liked them! Now we have to wait until 2024 for the finale season though ⏳

looking ahead

August is bringing back the Magical Readathon! Can you tell that I’m excited? 😂 I’m still making use of my semester break, though I don’t know when I’ll have to begin preparations for my Master’s thesis. I haven’t heard from my prof yet but I suspect we’ll have at least one meeting where we talk about the timeline of the project. Apart from that I don’t have any big projects and will be reading as much as possible for the Readathon 🥰 It’s always one of the highlights of the month and I’m taking all the time to recharge before the last sprint (aka my thesis)!

This month’s challenge is to read books with “diverse body representation, such as fat or plus-size rep, disabled rep, etc.

  1. Do Nothing sounds really interesting, I have to check out if my library has it. I’m fascinated by this topic!
I’m glad you were able to rest near a lake! Being close to water is so relaxing, I couldn’t live in a place without a river or a lake or some kind of body of water!
The heatwave was and still is massive here too… It is so disheartening to think about that it’s going to be the norm thanks to humans…
Thanks for mentioning my posts, Caro! 🥺
I also can’t wait for the Autumn Equinox!!

    1. Do Nothing was such an interesting nonfiction book, it referenced some historical events and articles by others who have written on the topic – I loved that 🥰 I love being by the lake or river, it’s just SO comforting for some reason! The heatwave is returning for us next week and I’m sad it’ll be more frequent from now on 😔
Happy to share your posts! I’m so hyped for the Magical Readathon as well ❤️

  2. I get kind of missing people from an internship, but you can always stay in contact and it might even open up opportunities after you’re done with your studies?
Thank you for sharing my post! I haven’t posted much this past month, but I’m finally on vacation myself – wohooo! I’m kind of miffed we have to wait until 2024 for the finale of Stranger Things haha I think they should have timed that better, everyone knew they were gonna get that final season.

    1. Yes that’s true! I worked at a department in my Uni, so since I’m still doing another semester there, I’ll surely see them again 😊 Ohh, I hope you’re having a good vacation!! Where are you going? 🥰 We do have to wait quite a bit for the Stranger Things finale, I hope the wait will be worth it and we’ll get a fantastic finale 🙏🏻

    1. I hope you get around to watching them soon! I’m always a bit behind on new seasons of TV shows so I feel you 😄 Really glad to finally have a break before diving into my thesis!

  3. The heatwave is concerning for multiple reasons and I will feel better when Autumn begins. I hope you have been coping well. I am glad you got to go on vacation recently, it sounds lovely. Congrats on reading 14 books– how nice that you enjoyed the sequels to carry on. I know a few didn’t love them as much as the first one.
I am very eager for the final season of stranger things– it will be interesting to see how they end things.
Thank you sooo much for sharing my posts. I am glad you liked them! I hope you have a lovely August Caro 💕

    1. The heatwave has been horrible 😢 I’m glad that it’s colder now, but it still doesn’t quite feel like fall yet. Thank you! ❤️ I feel like Carry On could have been a standalone, as the sequels aren’t as good, but they are entertaining 😄
I’m sad that we have to wait again for the final season, but I’m glad we’re at least getting a proper conclusion!
      Thank you, I hope you’re well 🥰

  5. seems like you had a great reading month, caro! i’m glad to hear you were able to enjoy the weather, despite the heatwave. it is indeed pretty scary and even though it’s winter here currently, we haven’t had many low temperatures all winter :/

i am happy to hear you enjoyed the disasters as well, that one was so much fun for me and the narration was hilarious. it also makes me happy that you enjoyed any way the wind blows better than i did, that whole series was quite a miss for me.

wishing you all the luck on the magical readathon & your thesis preparation. wishing you a great august!

    1. Thank you! I hate how the weather has turned 😢 Our winters also haven’t been as cold, which is sad because I love snow!
The Disasters was fun, the narrator had such a great voice 😊 Any Way the Wind Blows was entertaining but tbh Carry On should have remained a standalone, as the sequels felt a bit like fanservice 🙈
      Thank you! ❤️

I’m hoping to read See You Yesterday soon as well, it sounds so good!
    I hope you’ll have a lovely August! x
