Oldest Books on my TBR

Hello fellow bookworms πŸ“š Recently I thought it would be interesting to see what the oldest books on my TBR were. I’m no stranger to the euphoric feeling of adding a new book to my TBR that sounds amazing. But what about all the books already on the list? I knew that my Goodreads TBR is full of books that have been sitting there for years as there is only so much time to read. I joined Goodreads in 2016 so that’s the earliest year for the books on my TBR … and yet there are still many books I added right at the beginning πŸ˜… Today I’m listing the 8 oldest books on my Goodreads TBR that I still want to read πŸ‘€

Magic & Fire Study (Maria V. Snyder)

Late Nights with Good Books: Review: Magic Study by Maria V. Snyder

πŸ“– On my TBR since January 2016 πŸ“–

Why I still want to read it ➽ I read Poison Study ages ago (at the end of 2015 I think) and I loved it, so I immediately got the next two books in the series for my birthday … only to never read them. So much time has passed that I have to reread the first book and find out if Maria V. Snyder is an author that I’d like to read more from. I’ll definitely at least finish the original Study Trilogy as there are many more spinoffs too.

Reborn (C.C. Hunter)Β

πŸ“– On my TBR since January 2016 πŸ“–

Why I still want to read it ➽ I loved the original Shadow Falls books and I did a reread of them back in 2018. They aren’t perfect but still brought back so much nostalgia. Reborn is the first book in a spin-off series centered around Delia, the main character’s best friend from the original books. I always quite liked her and the paranormal world is fun to read about, so I might give this one another shot and decide if I want to read the entire spin-off series or stop at Reborn!

Onyx (Jennifer L. Armentrout)

πŸ“– On my TBR since April 2016 πŸ“–

Why I still want to read it ➽ I feel like I’m outgrowing some of JLA’s books but I want to at least give her Lux series one last try. I loved Obsidian in high school and though it didn’t quite hold up in a reread, it was still fun. I bought Onyx back when I first started the series, so I might as well read my copy and decide if I want to abandon this series or not!

Bloodlines Series (Richelle Mead)

πŸ“– On my TBR since April 2016 πŸ“–

Why I still want to read it ➽ As is a theme here, I loved the Vampire Academy books in high school and did a reread last year, which was so much fun! This is a series that held up the test of time, though I was more critical of some aspects. It was also part of a Readalong that included reading the Bloodlines series – a spinoff following some characters from the VA books – afterward. However, I wasn’t in the mood for Bloodlines at all at the time and put it back down. I hope to pick it up again when the time is right πŸ™πŸ»

Wayfarer (Alexandra Bracken)

πŸ“– On my TBR since May 2016 πŸ“–

Why I still want to read it ➽ I read Passenger back in 2016 and it was one of my absolute favorite books of the year. Obviously, I needed to read the sequel as well and even ordered my own copy. But I’m pretty bad about finishing series (this is a duology so Wayfarer is the final book) and once again procrastinated picking it up. I still love the time travel and intrigue of these books so I hope to get around to Wayfarer someday!

Graceling (Kristin Cashore)

πŸ“– On my TBR since May 2016 πŸ“–

Why I still want to read it ➽ Another book that I added because there was SO much hype for it and back when I joined Goodreads in 2016 I added all the YA books that I had missed due to my big reading slump in the previous years. I only picked up Graceling once to start it when I got my own copy … but I wasn’t that engaged. I have a feeling this series isn’t for me, but I want to read at least the first book because so many people absolutely love Graceling and have recommended it!

Daughter of Smoke and Bone Trilogy (Laini Taylor)

πŸ“– On my TBR since May 2016 πŸ“–

Why I still want to read it ➽ Laini Taylor is one of the most popular YA Fantasy authors and I got the entire series as a box set because back then I was obsessed with them. This year I have finally read Strange the Dreamer and it was fine, but not as amazing as I expected. I have a feeling that I might like Daughter of Smoke and Bone more though as it’s urban fantasy (set in Prague) and features angels I think πŸ‘€ Let’s hope that I’m right!

Divider2

Cruel Beauty (Rosamund Hodge)

πŸ“– On my TBR since June 2016 πŸ“–

Why I still want to read it ➽ When I joined Goodreads I also added all the retellings that I could find! Cruel Beauty survived many Goodreads TBR purges as I still think it could be fun. It’s a Beauty and the Beast retelling with an enemies to lovers romance and that still spoke to me! Rosamund Hodge writes other retellings, so I hope to find out if I want to give more of her books a shot after this one!

  1. I loved the first four books in the Lux series when they were still released, but by the time the last book came out, I grew out of it so I never finished it. And I’ve had Bloodlines on my TBR for a while too, I just haven’t found the right mood to read it yet.

  2. I love this post idea! I did my own version a while back and it was so fun. I have two still to read from my list, one of which is Daughter of Smoke and Bone! Looks like we’ve both been waiting a while to get to that one (I also own the whole trilogy).

I did a little happy dance when I saw Magic Study and Fire Study at the top of this post. πŸ˜„ The Study/Glass/Soulfinder series is one of my all-time favourites and I never see anyone talk about it! I’ve read Poison Study 3 or 4 times now, so hopefully it’s a good reread for you! I will say Fire Study is probably my least favourite, mainly because the characters are kind of sad throughout it due to the plot. And I don’t like seeing characters I love unhappy! But I have so much love for this series – it got me back into reading after years of not so it’ll always have a special nostalgia to me πŸ₯°

    1. Thank you so much! ❀️ I got the Daughter of Smoke and Bone box set in 2016 for Christmas and I still haven’t even started this series πŸ™ˆ I hope we get around to reading it soon!

I need to catch up with the Study series, especially as there are all these companion series and I loved the first book ages ago! Glad to hear that you love them so much πŸ₯° I need to finally read Fire Study at least!

  3. wow, all the covers are a blast from the past. I haven’t actually read any of these books but I loved seeing how long you’ve had them on your TBR and why you are keeping them. I think the two I am most likely to read are Graceling (like you I’ve heard good things, I hope you do end up enjoying it more than you think) and Cruel Beauty. I’ve heard a lot of great reviews so I think it stands the test of time. Plus, I believe the writing is supposed to be beautiful.
Best of luck reading these books! πŸ₯°

  4. I loved Graceling the first time I read it and I also loved it on a recent re-read! sadly I didn’t find the rest of the series as good and don’t plan on reading more by the author.

  5. Honestly, I don’t think I’ve read any of the books on this list! πŸ˜‚ I still want to read Laini Taylor’s ‘DOSAB’ series but everytime I try to get into it, I can barely get past the first chapter. Still convinced I’ll pick it up at some point, just not now. Maybe I’ll start with her other series first?? 🀭

  6. I can’t remember much about the Study series but I loved it so, so much and I remember them just getting better and better! I have some of the spin off books as well but haven’t touched them again ever since I bought them πŸ˜€ Daughter of Smoke and Bone is one of my favourite series, I just love the magical concept so much and the characters are great as well! I can definitely recommend these! Graceling has been on my TBR for 500 years as well, it’s been so long πŸ˜€

  7. Oh this is such a fun post, I love the idea. I don’t know what gems I’d find if I looked up the oldest books on my TBR,… there are just so many books, now, I’m certain there are some really really well hidden-gems there πŸ₯°
I read and enjoyed Daughter of Smoke and Bone here, I have a feeling you’d like it as well! πŸ™‚
