Joining the #Bookoplathon for the first time 🎲 feat. Finlay Donovan, The Sunbearer Trials & More

Bookoplathon TBR (1)

Hello fellow bookworms 🎲 You know that I’m always on the hunt for another Readathon to join and I’m in luck this time! I had seen the Bookoplathon around and missed the 48-hour round earlier this year. However, the Readathon is coming back in September and gives me the chance to join for the first time! I love TBR games and this one, in particular, looks SO creative and fun πŸ₯° Playing Monopoly always made me a bit anxious but turn it into a reading board with prompts and I’m down πŸ˜‚ I’m going to be sharing how the Readathon works and what books I have chosen as my TBR! I’ve gone with 6 books for now ❀️

🎲 Information about the Readathon 🎲

How it works & rules

The Bookoplathon is based on Becca’s Bookopoly TBR Game and runs the entirety of September! As the name suggests, it’s a Monopoly board, but filled with various reading prompts. You start at the GO square and roll two dice (I used an online generator) to determine your first reading prompt and then go along the board. Like Becca suggested I used a magnetic bookmark to keep track of where I was on the board! You can roll a certain number of times, depending on how much you read (e.g. I choose 6 rolls and will then roll again for each new book), or roll new prompts as you finish each book.

Before doing your rolls, you also need to make Chance and Community Shelf cards (I did 5 instead of the 16 that are suggested)! The Chance cards contain specific books you want to read and the Community Shelf cards have reading prompts that you made up. If you come across the corresponding square, you choose one card from your stack! I found the idea of making your own prompts/books a lot of fun πŸ₯° Generally, the rules say that if you have the same number on each dice [e.g. you roll a 3 on both dices] you have to do an additional roll. If you – at any time – land on a prompt you really cannot work with, you can do a reroll but have to read two books instead of one.

🎲 My Dice Rolls & TBR 🎲

Roll 1 [7] 🎲 Chance Card

Finlay Donovan Is Killing It (Elle Cosimano) ➽ I picked 5 books that were recommended to me for the Chance cards, as it’s the theme of September’s #DevourYourTBR challenge! The card I picked had Finlay Donovan on it, which was recommended by Destiny @ howlinglibraries ❀️ I have heard nothing but good things, so I’m very excited!

Roll 2 [8] 🎲 Summer Book

The Mighty Heart of Sunny St. James (Ashley Herring Blake) ➽ Of course I landed on the square for my least favorite season πŸ˜‚ It isn’t too bad as Sunny St. James has a beach setting and really want to read it before it’s officially fall! This was on my Magical Readathon TBR for quests but I didn’t get around to reading it, so now there’s another chance!

Roll 3 [3] 🎲 Favorite Setting [summer camp]

Long Story Short (Serena Kaylor) ➽ Picking just one favorite setting was hard and usually I would have thought of Fantasy first. But then I remembered that I love summer camp settings and now is the perfect time to read them! Long Story Short seems like it could be a lot of fun, as it has a genius protagonist who is trying to prove to her parents that she has the social skills to attend Oxford University πŸ˜„

Roll 4 [11] 🎲 Features a death

Anatomy: A Love Story (Dana Schwartz) ➽ Quite a morbid square, but most Fantasy books do have death somewhere. In the end, I went with a historical fiction though that I just got for my Kindle! Anatomy is about an aspiring surgeon who is denied entrance because she’s a woman. To prove herself she practices on corpses, so there should be plenty of death in the book! πŸ’€

Roll 5 [4] 🎲 Community Shelf [Cozy Read]

The Marvellers (Dhonielle Clayton) ➽ I wrote this prompt myself and then had such a hard time picking a book for it πŸ˜‚ I love cozy reads and have decided to check out a Middle Grade Fantasy! The Marvellers was one of my most anticipated releases and I really need to pick it up ❀️ I love immersive fantasy worlds and school settings, so this seems like the perfect book to cozy up with!

Roll 6 [6] 🎲 Highest Rating [4.6]

The Sunbearer Trials (Aiden Thomas) ➽ I sorted my Goodreads shelf according to the average rating and I excluded books that weren’t released yet. The first book that came up was The Sunbearer Trials, that’s perfect because it comes out in September and I preordered it πŸ₯° I love Aiden Thomas’ books and his new Fantasy book sounds like so much fun – I have heard nothing but praise!

  1. What a fun and creative readathon! I mean that board in itself in so mesmerising! I hope you have the best time with this challenge.
It looks like you have some good books lined up as well 😍
Finlay Donovan and The Sunbearer Trials look really fun in their own way.
I have seen Anatomy about but I didn’t know too much about it. It sound intriguing with a gritty edge! The “a love story” as the subtitle/tagline just makes me more interested too.

    1. Thank you, I’m having such a good time with the Readathon! I love the board, especially as I haven’t done a TBR game before 😊 My copy of The Sunbearer Trials just arrived and I’m excited to read it ❀️
I already read Anatomy by now and I loved it! It’s definitely gritty and suspenseful πŸ‘€ There was a bit of romance, but it felt very organic and didn’t take over the story!
