Hello fellow bookworms 🍂 It’s my favorite season again!! I didn’t plan on it, but since this is posted after September 23rd it’s the official start of Autumn in the Northern Hemisphere 🥰 I always like doing a recommendation post for autumn, as I’m a big fan of seasonal reading. This time I’m featuring 5 cozy and 5 atmospheric books, as that’s what I associate with autumn the most. There will be a separate post about all things spooky in October 👀

❤️ Cozy Books ❤️
Crumbs by Danie Stirling ❤️ YA Fantasy Graphic Novel ❤️ ➽ I just recently read this and it was SO comforting!! It’s about a Seer called Ray who falls in love with a kind musician. Both frequently visit his aunt’s bakery which sells magical teas and pastries that make you feel certain things. I loved the art and the idea of the bakery, it felt so cozy to me 🥰
Mooncakes by Xu & Walker ❤️ YA Fantasy Graphic Novel ❤️ ➽ I love witchy graphic novels and Mooncakes is one of the best!! It’s about a witch called Nova who lives with her grandparents and is practicing her magic. When her childhood crush returns, sinister things start happening in the woods. While this discusses heavier topics, it’s got so much heart and a sweet romance 😊
Nevermoor Series by Jessica Townsend ❤️ MG Fantasy ❤️ ➽ This is one of my absolute favorite series!!! Nevermoor is about Morrigan Crow who gets whisked away to a magical land and is competing to join a prestigious society. The entire world is full of wonder and magical things, which is why I loved reading this book. The worldbuilding is so well done and I love all the characters so much 🥺
The Sad Ghost Club by Lize Meddings ❤️ YA Contemporary Graphic Novel ❤️ ➽ The ‘ghosts’ in this book aren’t scary, as they represent mental health issues. As someone with anxiety, I found this book pretty cathartic to read, which is why I included it in the cozy section. The Sad Ghost Club not only discusses mental health struggles but also makes you feel less alone and shows that other people like you are out there!
Séance Tea Party by Reimena Yee ❤️ MG Fantasy Graphic Novel ❤️ ➽ The art of this book is simply STUNNING and visually pleasing to me 🥰 Séance Tea Party is about a young girl who’s got a ghost best friend. She’s scared of growing up, while her friend can never grow beyond what she is. This is a very emotional story for sure, but it has beautiful friendships 🥺
🍂 Atmospheric Books 🍂
Ravenfall by Kalyn Josephson ❤️ MG Fantasy ❤️ ➽ This book just came out recently and I highly recommend you check it out! It’s about a magical Inn that’s alive and houses the Ballinkay family. The story follows Anna Ballinkay and a young boy called Colin, who’s searching for his parent’s murderer. I loved that this had (found) family, supernatural beings, and lots of magic! The smalltown setting also feels cozy and I’m so glad there’s a sequel planned 🥰
Gallant by V.E. Schwab ❤️ YA Fantasy ❤️ ➽ Gallant is a standalone book about Olivia, who gets a strange invitation to join the family she never knew. This includes a mysterious house that might be haunted or even alive. The sinister atmosphere and strange creatures that only Olivia can see made this such a haunting read. The writing is beautiful and includes illustrations from Olivia’s mother’s journal!
Lost in the Never Woods by Aiden Thomas ❤️ YA Fantasy ❤️ ➽ If you love spooky, creepy woods, this book is perfect for you! Lost in the Never Woods is a Peter Pan retelling in a contemporary world. Wendy’s the only one left after her brothers went missing and when she finds a disoriented Peter in the woods, more people start disappearing. I loved the darker atmosphere, as the book deals with loss, grief, and Wendy’s trauma.
The Nature of Witches by Rachel Griffin ❤️ YA Fantasy ❤️ ➽ Witches are one of my favorites to read about during autumn! The Nature of Witches is about witches dedicated to different seasons that keep the climate in check. As an Everwitch, Clara is tied to all seasons but her nature of volatile and keeps hurting people. The book cycles through all seasons, but the cover alone gives off such autumnal vibes! 🍂
Under the Whispering Door by T.J. Klune ❤️ Adult Fantasy ❤️ ➽ T.J. Klune’s books always feel so cozy and atmospheric to me! Under the Whispering Door combines character growth, found family, and romance with some heavier themes. It’s about Wallace, who died and is now in transition to move on in a Ferryman’s house. He wasn’t a good person in life and is only now learning how to be better!
Have you read any of the books from my list? Did you like them? What are your favorite autumnal books? ❤️🍂
