MidnighTS Book Tag 🌙 Meet me at Midnight 💕

Hello fellow bookworms 🌙 I’m terrible at keeping up with new music and albums, I often listen to them years later 🙈 I loved a lot of Taylor Swift’s older music (I was obsessed in high school), but I’ve not been keeping up with her albums in the past years (except for some of the songs). With Midnights being all over my timeline, I finally sat down and listened to an album right when it came out … which hasn’t happened in many, many years. At first, I was skeptical but the more I listened, the more I loved this album!! Something about it spoke to me and I’ve been having such fun listening to the songs 🥰

I wanted to celebrate this momentous musical occasion by doing the MidnighTS Book Tag (Part 1)!! It was created by Star @ Star Is All Booked Up and I saw it on Dini @ dinipandareads blog 💕 I’ve included snippets of the songs along with my answers and done a very low-key ranking of the songs! Lavender Haze 🌙 a book you will always love and defend

Truthwitch by Susan Dennard ➽ I’ve got a deep love for Susan Dennard’s books and her Witchlands Series is one of my favorite Fantasy series 🥰 I love the characters, world, and storytelling so much!! It means so much to me and I’ve reached the point where I’ll preorder anything by this author, which I very rarely do!

Maroon 🌙 a spicy book

“When the silence came. We were shaking, blind and hazy. How the hell did we lose sight of us again?”

Act Your Age Eve Brown by Talia Hibbert ➽ I’ve been reading more Adult Romance this year, so I’ve had some books to choose from. Act Your Age, Eve Brown is probably my favorite Romance and my favorite Brown Sisters book! Not only does it have the sunshine & grumpy dynamic there’s some spice and hilarious situations as well 😉

Anti-Hero 🌙 unreliable narrator

“I have this thing where I get older, but just never wiser. Midnights become my afternoons. When my depression works the graveyard shift, all of the people I’ve ghosted stand there in the room.”

House of Earth and Blood by Sarah J. Maas ➽ I love books with unreliable narrators, they make the story so much more interesting! I finally read House of Earth and Blood this year and it’s got unreliable narrators with their own secrets. Especially Bryce is good at acting aloof and arrogant but is kinder than she lets on 👀

Snow of the Beach 🌙 an unexpected surprise

“And it’s like snow at the beach. Weird, but fuckin’ beautiful. Flying in a dream. Stars by the pocketful.”

The Library of the Unwritten by A.J. Hackwith ➽ I bought this book last year on a whim and I remember seeing mixed reviews. I had zero expectations going into this and I ended up loving it! THIS is the type of Adult Fantasy I want to read: witty, charming, and interesting with lovable characters and a super cool world 🥰

You’re On Your Own, Kid 🌙 a character that really needs a hug

“And I saw something they can’t take away. ‘Cause there were pages turned with the bridges burned. Everything you lose is a step you take.”

Six Crimson Cranes by Elizabeth Lim ➽ To be honest, most characters in Fantasy need a hug. Shiori from Six Crimson Cranes definitely qualifies! She’s cursed by her evil stepmother and cast out of her kingdom. Shiori cannot speak or be recognized, or else one of her six brothers who’ve been turned into cranes will die. She goes through a lot of mistreatment and cruelty in this book, so I always felt sorry for her 🥺

Midnight Rain 🌙 star-crossed lovers

“He was sunshine, I was midnight rain. He wanted it comfortable, I wanted that pain.”

Something Strange and Deadly by Susan Dennard ➽ I love books with starcrossed lovers or characters who shouldn’t be together. I finally read Something Strange and Deadly, the debut of one of my favorite authors! Not only was it delightful, but the romance also drew me in. It’s between a high society girl and a common boy who’s involved with the mysterious Spirit Hunters. There’s of course a big class difference that makes it nearly impossible for them to have a future!

Question…? 🌙 grumpy x sunshine (or neurodivergent rep)

Tokyo Ever After by Emiko Jean ➽ I’m always here for some grumpy x sunshine pairings! Tokyo Ever After delivers on that front AND gives us the bodyguard x princess forbidden love as a bonus 💕 I had so much fun with the book and was invested in the romance, I highly recommend the audiobook!

Vigilante Shit 🌙 favorite character out for revenge

“Draw the cat eye sharp enough to kill a man. You did some bad things, but I’m the worst of them. Sometimes I wonder which one’ll be your last lie. They say looks can kill and I might try.”

Very Bad People by Kit Frick ➽ Not everyone in this book is out for revenge, but I like how Very Bad People examines the topic, especially in the context of a secret society. The main character is caught between believing in the cause of the society and being skeptical by the lengths these people go to enact what they think is right 👀 A very compelling dark academia read!

Bejeweled 🌙 strong character development

“Best believe I’m still bejeweled. When I walk in the room. I can still make the whole place shimmer.”

The Sunbearer Trials by Aiden Thomas ➽ Once again Aiden Thomas delivers!! The Sunbearer Trials is a great Fantasy book about semidioses (offsprings of mortals and gods) and a deadly competition. The main character Teo is suddenly forced to participate and is very much the underdog, without much chance to win. I loved his determination and will to endure even with so many stronger participants around!

Labyrinth 🌙 second chance romance

“You know how much I hate. That everybody just expects me to bounce back. Just like that.”

Carrie Soto Is Back by Taylor Jenkins Reid ➽ I don’t think I read enough second chance romance, though I like the trope!! I did read Carrie Soto Is Back recently and it was fantastic. The romance isn’t the focus here, but I really liked it, as it was compelling. Carrie and Bow have history and used to have a fling. Now they’re working together again and maybe feelings are rekindled 😉

Karma 🌙 favorite full circle moments or parallels

“Karma is the breeze in my hair on the weekend, Karma’s a relaxing thought. Aren’t you envious that for you it’s not?. Sweet like honey, karma is a cat. Purring in my lap ’cause it loves me. Flexing like a goddamn acrobat. Me and karma vibe like that.”

See You Yesterday by Rachel Lynn Solomon ➽ This was a bit harder to pick, but I choose See You Yesterday! The entire premise is based on two characters being stuck in a time loop, so there are a lot of parallels and impactful moments, as both of them try to escape and change the course of their day. I loved this contemporary, so I highly recommend it! 🥰

Sweet Nothing 🌙 favorite fluffy/cozy read

“And the voices that implore, “You should be doing more” To you, I can admit that I’m just too soft for all of it.”

Cat’s Cafe & One Cup at a Time by Matt Tarpley ➽ This is one of my favorite graphic novels and it’s incredibly cozy! It’s a collection of stories about animals who go about their lives and centers around a place called Cat’s Cafe that connects everyone 💕 I love the explorations of mental health, friendships, and self-care!

Mastermind 🌙 perfect world building and storytelling

“What if I told you I’m a mastermind? And now you’re mine. It was all by dеsign. ‘Cause I’m a mastermind”

Vespertine by Margaret Rogerson ➽ Margaret Rogerson is a masterful Fantasy writer and I have loved all of her books so far!! Vespertine has an interesting and unique world that focuses on different orders of malicious spirits that arise when a body isn’t properly cleansed after death. The main character is an unlikely heroine and is forced to team up with a powerful, evil spirit – one of my absolute favorite tropes!
