20 Books to read in 2020 ⭐ feat. some small reading goals

Hello fellow bookworms 📚 By the time you’re reading this I’ll have handed in my thesis!!! 🎉🎉🎉 That means writing more posts again and the end of my hiatus, YAY! This is also the perfect time to finally talk about the annual TBR that I always do, even though I rarely read all the books I’m picking out at the beginning of the year 😅This time I’m even setting my goal at 20 books in 2020 instead of 10, because why not? Hannah’s new video got me inspired to aim to read even more books that have been on the top of my TBR, so here I am! I also decided to make a few categories/goals to better organize the books that I want, so here we go 💗

{5} Series to Finish in 2020

I’m usually good at starting a bunch of series, but often procrastinate finishing them due to a) painful/intense endings or b) high expectations. 😱 However, I want to get back into the habit of actually reading the last book in a series I loved and not to push it back because I’m scared that I won’t like it. That’s why I have 5 series finales that I am excited for and that mark the end of amazing characters and worlds. Some of them, I have been meaning to read for a long time like Vengeful and The Storyteller, others like Supernova and The Toll have just come out at the end of last year. And Undying marks the beginning of me trying to read sequels close after finishing the previous book 😄

Despite wanting to finish off a lot of series, I do want to start some hat I have been hoping to get around to for ages, as thee’s nothing better than discovering a new world to love 💗 There are way too many series that are vying for my attention, but there are some that I haven’t been prioritizing in the last years, so these are the ones I’m hoping to push to the top of my TBR. A few of these series debuts – like The Queen’s Rising, The Lies of Locke Lamora and Daughter of Smoke and Bone – have been on my physical TBR for more than two years 😅 These Broken Stars is a library book that I already got around to reading, but it had been on my Goodreads TBR ever since I joined Goodreads. Finally, The Gilded Wolves is a newer series, but I adore the author so I need to finally read it!

Among all these series, I also want to read standalone books, as it’s nice to be reading books that don’t require you to pick up the next books or eagerly anticipate an upcoming sequel 😄 My favorite standalone books are in the contemporary genre, as it’s less likely to have series than Fantasy. That’s why I have been wanting to pick up some diverse books that honestly sound amazing, like Let’s Talk about Love and Love from A to Z, who are on the top of my list because I love the authors that have written them! 🥰 I also couldn’t resist putting Red, White and Royal Blue on the list, as there has been so much praise! Even a historical fiction book has made me curious, that was Salt to the Sea, and I’ve already read it – it has been an emotional journey for sure!

Like every year there are so many books releasing in 2020 that I want to read, but I won’t try and read all of them because it’s a) not possible and b) expensive. These aren’t nearly all the books I’m anticipating, but I have a list for the beginning of the year! I was fortnate enough to already get two Arcs of books that I was escited for: Of Curses and Kisses as well as The Electric Heir, both of which I have already read by now, as tehy are already released by now. The last book that I 100% will read in 2020, is The Tower of Nero, another highly anticipated series finale, that will only come out at the end of September 😭

{2} Backlist Books (pre-2019) to read in 2020

I’m naturally reading a lot of backlist books that I get either from the library or that have accumulated on my TBR, so there is only two very backlist books that I had wanted to read for a long time. I decided to give Jackaby a chance – published in 2014 – and accidentally became obsessed with the series, so that has been going well 😂💕 The other book I wanted to get to since I joined Goodreads is The Crown’s Game – published in 2016 – a fantasy series debut that sounded good and still holds my interest years later, so I hope I’ll enjoy it!

{1} Reread of a Favorite in 2020

• ✅ Under Rose-Tainted Skies (Louise Gornall) ⭐

This actually was my first reread of 2020, as I have been working on reading as many books from my library that had been on my TBR and getting through my beginning of the year Arcs, so there was simply no time to reread. I also only reread books when I’m really in the mood for it, but this year I have been wanting to read new books a bit more. I still love rereading, and I might be doing it later in the year, as I’m eyeing a few books that I loved and want to enjoy again. Under Rose-Tainted Skies was a fantastic fourth reread and I’m eternally sad that the author hadn’t published another book 🥺
