What I’ve been up to in August ⭐ Editing Crisis & Percy Jackson Nostalgia

August Wrapup

Hello fellow bookworms ⭐ August went by surprisingly fast, but that might not be a big surprise as that tends to happen when there’s some glorious downtime. However, as I’m not a big fan of summer I’m more than happy that it’s finally September 🍂 Not to be controversial on the blog (😱), but I don’t consider September part of summer it’s autumn if you go according to the meteorological seasons (as opposed to the astronomical ones) which I do because autumn is my second favorite season 🥰 Though the weather won’t be as cool as I’d like for some while, I’m more than happy to get into the autumn spirit again, as this season (+ winter) are always my favorite time of the year when I find myself at my most peaceful 🥰 Last week I went into the city and saw all these Halloween and autumn decorations and it legit made me so happy and feel very cozy inside, I love autumn SOOO much 💕 This was basically just one big ‘why I love autumn rant’ so let’s get into what I did during August (still very much summer)!

Me getting excited about autumn again

In terms of reading August was a full success, I ended up reading 20 books mainly because I was challenging myself to fulfil as many prompts for the NEWT Readathon as possible. being on my semester break also helped, as it provided me with a lot of free time to read if I so choose to do it! I also participated in 3 1/2 Readathons (NEWT Readathon + Magical All-nighter, Series Crackdown 8.0, Dewey’s 24 Hour Readathon) and they always tend to boost my reading as well – it was fantastic finally getting to some Readathons again, I missed them SO much! 🥰 Especially the two 24 Hour Readathons that I participated in on the weekends did wonders for my reading and it was great to take one day off to just  read all day to my heart’s desire 💕 Midway through the Readathon – after finishing The Heroes of Olympus Series – some serious Percy Jackson nostalgia hit me and I reread the Series in almost one week because I was obsessed again!! I also almost reread the Trials of Apollo books (the fourth book is coming soon) and was generally reminded why I adore Rick Riordan’s work 💙

NEWT Readathon Wrapup ✨

This was SO much fun but I’m also so sad that it’s over again 😭 Hopefully we’ll get another little extra Readathon towards the end of the year like last time, because I need some more Magical Readathon to hold me over to the OWL’s next April 😱 I read 19 books for the NEWT Readathon and got 18 credits (for one subject I only got A and O but not E)!! That’s fantastic as I only needed 7 to fulfill my required subjects. … Did I manage to read the 7 books to get my Magizoologist required grade? Yes, I did! I’m now a proud Magizoologist with some extra credits to certify that I’ve got lots to offer to possible future employers ✨🎉 Getting a magical career was amazing and I cannot wait to do it again next year and try out something else 🥰

The Series Crackdown Readathon 8.0, hosted by TheBookMo took place from August 2nd to August 11th and as always I had such a fun time participating! This time around there was another bingo board and a brand-new point system, that made this such a cool event to take part in! I was pretty happy with my progress and I cannot wait for the next round to take place, to tackle some more Series 🥰 You can find my Twitter Thread with all my updates here 💖

life stuff

I started revising my WIP 😱 It’s finally happening! I meant to revise my WIP last year, but it didn’t work out, so I only now got to working on it again. It’s a bit sad, but I was so occupied with my internship and classes beforehand, that I only could start revision once I had my semester break. Currently I have finished my readthrough of my printed manuscript and have sorted through all the notes I have on changes that need to be made. I’ll definitely be doing another writing update all about my progress! In general, I’m trying to do some more writing posts on the blog (I was thinking 2 per month) 💖 Like I mentioned in this month’s writing post I have also been trying to get back to writing frequently and consistently again, sow wish me luck that it’ll continue over the next months 🙂

Me trying to get through revision

To be honest not much else exciting happened. I could finally get back to reading more without feeling guilty again, so that was great! I wrote a lot of overdue Reviews that I had been collecting since my Internship got busier. I even wrote my last internship report that I need to hand in when October comes around. When it comes to my bachelor thesis I only have a vague idea about what I have to do and I’ll have to do my research soon, even though I’m not excited for that :/ I’ve also been thinking a lot about what comes after my Bachelor’s degree and what I want the next years, which has triggered a bit of a personal crisis, because I’m worried I’ll have done nothing memorable and will be falling behind when everyone else is doing exciting things and getting out of their comfort zone. (I know it isn’t like that but good luck trying to get me to actually believe that) You could say I have been thinking and planning a lot.

looking ahead

This month’s theme: Mood Reading yet again 🎉!

For September I have yet again no reading theme in mind (like in July), because there wasn’t anything that spoke to me and with that in mind I didn’t see the point in trying to force one. I’ll be getting back to some mood reading after the intense month of August where I was trying to make every book, I read fit one of  the NEWT prompts so it would count towards my Readathon success. September is meant to be a bit more relaxing even though I really want to participate in another Readathon, now that I still have a lot of free time to myself. However, it’s not going to be as intense as the NEWT Readathon (even though I of course also had a lot of fun challenging myself to fulfill as many prompts as possible). I think maybe I might do some rereads or get to some books that I have been wanting to read for a long time. It’s going to be a more spontaneous and changing TBR this time 😃 Apart from that there’s not much planned for September except for doing lots of revision on my WIP and trying to hopefully figure out what I want to do for my Bachelor thesis. I’ll hope for lots more fun (and autumn) though 💕

The 3 books I checked out of my library that I’ll definitely reading (because I need to return them on time), unsurprisingly they are all Fantasy ✨

  1. WOW, 20 books??? You did so well with the NEWTs readathon! 😱 I am extremely impressed. Rereading Percy Jackson is always a good choice! I still haven’t read the Trials of Apollo books but I really want to. I hope your reading and writing goes well in September! And thanks for linking to my posts! 😄❤️

  2. omg 20 books?!?! I’m so jealous! even when I read really fast I NEVER managed 20 in a month, wow!! I hope september turns out to be an equally excellent reading month for you!

Also that cat gif is totally me about fall, too. Fall is probably my favorite season so I am very excited that it is happening soon.

Thanks for the shout out 🙂

    1. To be fair, I had a lot of free time on my hands, so I could dedicate a lot of time to reading – that was awesome 📖 Thank you!! 🥰

Yeees I’m very excited for the colder weather and I cannot wait to do all the typical fall things 🍂 I hope you have a great September! 🙂

  3. I read like, three books this month lol. Wow, twenty is amazing!!! My favorite book was Summer Bird Blue by Akemi Dawn Bowman. It’s a fantastic story I highly recommend. Also, I’ve been thinking about reading the Percy Jackson series, glad to see you love the books ❤ Good luck on revising your WIP too!! I'm still on the process of writing the first draft, and the struggle. is. REAL.

    1. Three books is great as well! 🙂
Oh, I have been wanting to read that one, as I liked reading Starfish last year 🙂 I hope you end up reading the Percy Jackson books some time, they are great binge-reads 🥰 Thank you! All the best luck to you and your WIP as well 💗

  4. I’m SO impressed by all of the reading you managed to get done in the last month, WOW, this is AMAZING. I’m curious whether it’s intentional or not, since you forgot the little rating for Eliza and her Monsters, I take it you weren’t such a fan of it all?
I’m happy you enjoyed A Curse So Dark, I really want to read that one 😀
Wishing you all the best of luck for editing, I’m rooting for you and will be looking forward to all of your writing updates always. As for worrying about the future, right here with you haha, but I am certain everything is going to be okay and you will do amazing, you really will ❤
    I hope you'll have a beautiful september x

    1. Thank you!! 💗💖 I actually forgot to insert the rating for Eliza and her Monsters oops 😅😂 I sadly didn’t like it as much as I wanted to because I had some issues with it, but it ended up being 3.5 stars because I’m still soft on the fandom aspect!

A Curse so Dark and Lonely is a great retelling that tries to put some twists on the original story, so I enjoyed reading it very much 🙂 Thank you so much!! I hope to put up the updates consistently and make good progress on writing this remaining year 💕 I hope so! It’s just a lot right now 💖
I hope you had a fantastic month! 🥰

  5. High five fellow Autumn lover!! It’s my favourite season by quite some distance and I also like to think of Sept 1st as the beginning of Autumn although my husband strongly disagrees (I ignore him).

20 books for August is amazing! Well done! I just finished the Heroes of Olympus series and I adore Rick Riordan’s demigods with every fibre of my book-loving soul… Can’t wait to start Trials of Apollo although I was planning on reading the Egyptian and Norse series first as I hate waiting so want to be closer to the release of book 5 before I begin!

    1. Oh yes, autumn is the best!! It definitely starts in September, even though the weather is only now getting really cold and perfect for cozying up 🍂

Thank you!! 🙂 YES!! I love Rick Riordan’s demigods, he writes such amazing worlds and makes them heartbreaking and fun at the same time 🥰 I hope you love the rest of his Series, they are all very good!

  6. Ahah I had no idea that anyone thinks that September is part of summer!! I have always thought that August is the last summer month, and in September it’s time to go full-on autumnal. Time to curl up in a blanket and drink pumpkin-spiced everything.

OMG your August was amazing!! 20 books? That’s great! You absolutely won NEWTs! I can totally see why you want to try some mood reading in September 😊 Hope you enjoy Kiss of Deception, I recently finished that series and loved it!

Also, sorry to hear that you’re stressed about your bachelor’s thesis! It’s really stressful to figure out something like that, I’m sending you a bunch of good vibes!! If you need anyone to chat to, I’m always here 😊😊

    1. Some people like to hold on a bit to summer and consider September late summer, but I’m in full-on autumn mode from September 1st! Time for a pumpkin spice latte and lots of blankets 🥰🍂🎃

Thank you!! The NEWTs were fantastic, as they boosted my reading so much and I had lots of fun doing as many challenges as I could 📚 I definitely needed the mood reading though! I actually didn’t end up reading Kiss of Deception, but I’ll try to pick it up in the future when I’m more in the mood for royal fantasy again 🙂

Thank you for the good vibes!!! 💖💕 I’ve come a bit farther in figuring out everything, so now it’s all about waiting to talk to the professor again 🤞

  7. Oh wow, reading 20 books in August is so impressive!! 😮 I’m glad to see you enjoyed On the Come Up and A Curse So Dark and Lonely; I really want to read both of them. Best of luck on the revisions of WIP! I’m glad you’ve had time to read and write, and hope that’ll continue to be the case in September. 😀

  8. Readathons always look so fun and I would love to participate in one at some point but I need to be a bit more organised for them but congratulations on all of yours. And of course, congratulations for becoming a Magizoologist!!
I have never read a Rick Riordan book *gasp* but I really would like to, I am kind of hoping that the entire Percy Jackson series comes out in illustrated copies so I can read them all in that format but I don’t know if that will happen. I’m glad you love them all though!!
Best of luck with your writing– I want to write more about writing on my blog too so I am excited that you are doing more posts about writing!! 🙂
I hope you have a great September (I love autumn too!!) !!

    1. I love doing Readathons so much! Thank you, I hope that there’s going to be another mini Magical Readathon towards the end of the year as they are always fun 🥰

Ohh, I hope you end up reading a Rick Riordan book some time, they are great to get through and there is a lot of content to devour 😄 I would love to get the illustrated versions too, they look so pretty!

Thank you!! Good luck with your writing too, I hope to see some of your writing posts as well 💗 I hope you’re having a great autumn! 🍂

  9. 20 books in AMAZING! I’ve been considering rereading the Percy Jackson series on audiobook because it was my jam as a kid and I can’t remember if I even finished it. I was afraid that they would maybe fall short a second time? But I’m definitely going to reread them now. AND CONGRATS ON STARTING REVISIONS! *throws confetti and waves pompoms* So proud of you. Good luck and I hope it goes well! It’s definitely my favorite part of the process. Also — that cat running through leaves gif is a MOOD. Happy September. 💛

    1. Thank you so much!! 🥰 Oh yes, I can highly recommend rereading the books, they are great comfort books and so addictive, even the second time around 💕 They bring on a bout of nostalgia for me every time – I hope you enjoy your reread!
THANK YOU 😭💗 I’d say it isn’t my favorite part of the process, but it’s important to tackle it, hopefully it’ll get easier the second time around 😅 I love the cat gif!!
I hope you had a great September 💛🍂

Thank you! 💕 Preparing my Bachelor thesis is a big project, but I have hopefully found a good topic by now I just have to check it with my professor 🙂

      1. I haven’t tried a readathon myself- they intimidate me quite a bit hahaha. Maybe one of these days I will do an easy one XD
That’s good that you’ve found a good thesis topic. Hope that goes smoothly!

  11. kldflksdj thank you so much for including my post in this amazing wrap up!!!!!!! I think I gave Challenger Deep the same rating, because I loved the mental illness representation (it was done so darn well) but that TERRIBLE unnecessary romance made me cringe so hard. I think maybe it was put in just for the sake of being a romance in a YA book????? it was a weird reading experience for me overall lol

  12. GAHHHH thanks for including my posts Caro ❤️ A loved one went into the hospital at the start of the month and now I’m behind on posts and comments! So sorry!! But it sounds like you had an even better reading month than I did!! 20 books is so, so good. I hope you were able to come to a decision about some of these important happenings.
