Hello fellow bookworms ๐ It’s time for the Bookish End of the Year Survey again! I did the survey for the past couple of years and it’s always a lot of fun to look back at the reading year and talk about stats, bookish opinions, blogging highlights, and what’s yet to come in 2021 (hopefully some good things)! ๐ The feature was initially created by Jamie @ PerpetualPageTurner! Again, I have skipped out of a few questions due to the length of the Survey and the fact that I’ve already posted my Favorite and Least Favorite Books of the year ๐ (Book covers will link to Reviews if available to read more about my thoughts!) I’ve also used the 2020 Book Blogger Template by Kal @ ReaderVoracious again this year and it’s still such an INCREDIBLE spreadsheet! I used it for most of the graphs down below as that was a great feature of the Template ๐ฅฐ

Year in Books
๐ Check out my Year in Books Here ๐
Genre You Read The Most From
You can see that while Fantasy remains my favorite, I also read a lot of other genres compared to previous years. Contemporary is always close second but I read a ton more Sci-Fi and Nonfiction!
Star Ratings
As every year I have a high rating average and I’m really happy about that, as this year was very challenging and reading a lot of amazing books really helped me ๐
- 1 Star (3 Books)
- 2 Stars (8 Books)
- 3 Stars (35 Books)
- 4 Stars (74 Books)
- 5 Stars (43 Books, including rereads)
Year Published
I actually read quite a few new books (published in 2020) yet it felt like I didn’t know many books when the award season came around ๐ The majority of the books I read were still from the backlist (with 2018 being the most read year).
- 2020 ๐ 40ย Book Read
- 2019 ๐ 31ย Books Read
- 2018 ๐ 32ย Books Read
- 2017 ๐ 14ย Books Read
- 2016 ๐ 11 Books Read
- 2015 ๐ 16ย Books Read
- 2014 ๐ 8 Books Read
- Pre-2014 ๐ 13ย Books Read
Where my books came from
I used my library a lot, as you can see, especially when I got a digital library pass for Overdrive ๐ฅฐ Since I got a Kindle for my birthday I also made use of e-book purchases ๐
- Library ๐ 85 Books
- Arcs ๐ 17 Books
- Bought ๐ 35 Books
- Other (Giveaway/Gift/Free Trials)ย ๐ 29 Books
Books Formats
2020 was the year of the e-books for me! Between my Kindle and Overdrive e-books this was surprisingly my most read genre, probably because I had the best access to it. I also read a lot more audiobooks this year! I miss physical books though and will try to read more of them next year. ๐

Your Bookish Life
New favorite book blog you discovered in 2020?
I couldn’t just choose one blog so once again, I’ll share my Book Blogger Awards Nomination Post because it contains a lot of the book blogs that I love ๐
Favorite review that you wrote in 2020?
I loved this book so much which is why I adored writing the review for it. I could highlight so many relatable moments and favorite quotes ๐
Best discussion/non-review post you had on your blog?
Back in spring, we all needed some escapism which is why I loved doing the Comfort Reads Recommendations post sharing some of the books that bring me joy and hope ๐ฅฐ
Best event that you participated in (author signings, festivals, virtual events, memes, etc.)?
- Readathons forever and always ๐ I don’t usually go to book events as there aren’t many I’m interested in here in Germany but especially with COVID a lot wouldn’t have happened anyway, so Readathons were a great alternative that could be done from home ๐ Here are all the Readathons I participated in this year: Easter Readathon, Magical Readathon (OWL’s, last edition), #ReadingRush, Series Crackdown, OfftheGrid Readathon, Asian Readathon, Mental Healthathon, Prideathon, Tome Topple, Women’s History Month Reading Challenge, Pondathon, Sbooktober, TistheSeasonathon & Reindeer Readathon
Best moment of bookish/blogging life in 2020?
- Hosting my first ever reading challenge: The Out of Your Comfort Zone Reading Challenge ๐ It was so much fun to create my own reading challenge and though I was very nervous, I’m glad that I did it! For next year I have even more ideas and challenging myself to read outside of my comfort zone is something I definitely want to keep up in the future ๐ฅฐ
- Being Nominated for the Book Blogger Awards! ๐ฅบ It was honestly such an honor to be nominated at all and it warmed my heart to see all the blogger love going around the community in the nomination time ๐ I even made it into the voting round which was honestly so unexpected but also incredible and made me so grateful ๐ญ๐
- Getting a digital library card! When I moved after graduating my Bachelor’s degree, I also left behind my library, but I managed to sign up for a digital card at the country’s biggest library which gave me access to Overdrive for the first time! It was honestly so magical to finally be able to read so many more books, even some new release that the library got ๐
Most challenging thing about blogging or your reading life this year?
- Adapting to starting my Master’s program! After a lot of time waiting to hear back from the universities that I had applied to, I finally got my confirmation, but that also means that change was coming. I tried to adapt to a busier schedule and took November off for a hiatus to settle into college and figure out how to keep up with my life and hobbies in this new situation.

Me getting ready for the upcoming year
What was your favorite reading/blogging moment of 2020? What are you hoping to accomplish in 2021?
Felix Ever After is definitely a book I’ll likely reread soon. I loved the characters in that so much. I’m so sad you didn’t like Wrapped Up in You, I love Talia Hibbert and I thought this was a cute Christmas novella. I’m looking forward to One Way or Another, but I’m also a bit scared now, haha. Hope it won’t disappoint me. I read both Technically You Started It and It Sounded Better In My Head because of you, and I enjoyed them both A LOT. Hope your next year will be fantastic, Caro! ๐

i’m so shocked by how many backlist books you read this year caro!! i love seeing it, though, i feel like most of the book blogging community feels pressured to read all the new releases and i’m glad you were able to read a lot of older books ๐ i’m glad you enjoyed so many books this year! and seeing hypnos, enrique, and zofia on your list of otps made me so happy because i couldn’t agree more ๐ฅบ i hope you have a wonderful reading year in 2021, and i’m glad you were able to figure out your reading schedule in accordance with your master’s!

I somehow always end up reading lots of backlist, which I’m really happy with ๐ I definitely feel the pressure and hype of new releases though. When award season came around, I was like … who are all these books?? I barely read any of the nominees ๐๐ Hypnos, Enrique, and Zofia made me have all the feels ๐ฅบ Thank you so much! I also hope 2021 is a good year for you ๐ฅฐ

Ahh.. This was so great to read and see all your stats and moments of 2020.
I think it is interesting to see the different formats of books people read and ebooks are so easy to use. I think using a digital library is so handy. I was actually surprised by how few physical books I read this year as that used to be all I read but it was pretty equal this year so I was shocked ๐
And yay to reading mostly fantasy. I’m in such a fantasy mood at the minute!!
I’m so glad you got to read a lot of backlisted books as I quite like prioritising them as they are so many great ones!!
It was so great to read all your answers to the questions as well. I know I’ve said this to you so many times but I really need to read Jackaby and The Gilded Wolves!! ๐

I hope you enjoy Jackaby and The Gilded Wolves ๐ฅฐ
